Blocked Pseudopods

If you block an attack that forces you to discard cards, you still discard cards. That seems like a bug, since you didn't actually get hit and other secondary effects (like catching on fire) do not trigger.

So for example, if you get attacked by Yellow Puddings using a small pseudopod strike, you still lose your card even if you don't get hit because of a flimsy block. This appears to be universal for attack cards with discard riders. Since block effects are supposed to "cancel" the offending card, it seems weird that you still lose your armor.

This is nothing to do with discard but rather the "immediately" part of the card rule. So, Pseudopod Strike says "Immediately discard the oldest revealed card in target's hand."

Immediately means as soon as the card is played, before blocks are checked.

Gotta say, even after having it explained, that still seems like a bug. If the card has been canceled, it shouldn't have any effects. At least on the character it was canceled against.

It's a design intended to make those cards more powerful and, to some extent, counter block cards.

  5. I agree with frank that this effect is pretty confusing and immersion breaking. I can dodge out of the way but still lose my card? How did that happen? What did the monster do? A cleaner solution would be to split it into two cards.

Pseudopod gaze: Target discards oldest, draw a card, cantrip.
Pseudopod strike: Normal 8 damage attack.

  7. Eh only one of those threads discusses (very shortly) melee attacks that have an effect even if you get blocked and whether it makes sense to have those cards. The others are mostly about making immediately a keyword.

Ah, yes...I was referring to the Immediately part of it. Immediately, you notice the difference between a Immediately brainwashed state and a clean brain.

I disagree that this is confusing - an effect on an attack that includes the word "immediately" is resolved immediately, i.e. before any blocks. I'd be more confused if blocks triggered first - what would immediately mean in that case, after blocks but before armour?

Immersion breaking? Maybe. But, in this case, the card is found on oozes. You could explain it as the slime surging forwards and enveloping your weapon. In the case of dodge you can't free it so you decide to drop it and jump backwards. A shield block could be you release your weapon and bash the ooze back with your shield.
