Sure. Earlier during development, they posted general information about classes, including the following: They've said that they are, in fact, setting aside cards for future use with a Rogue--things like stealing and backstabbing. Doing something like this is as massive as adding another color to Magic, so they have to plan now for future unleashing. Of course, some people are hoping that they don't go "class crazy" and unleash too many. I quoted the section about combinations for a reason: you have three people in a party, three races, and (currently) three classes, for fundamental and meaningful strategizing about party make-up. When they add the Rogue, it will no longer be possible to do an "all-inclusive" team, and players will have to keep an even larger "stable of adventurers" just to handle "All-Priest," "All-Rogue" (and so on) challenges. But yeah. Rogues. We had some discussion about them back here.
Given that each of the classes (so far, at least) has almost totally unique equipment (except boots and shields) adding new classes will mean a whole lot of new equipment that's unique to that class, which dilutes loot, making it harder to outfit your adventurers. So although they may well add a Rogue (Warrior, Priest, Mage, Rogue being pretty much a fantasy staple) I wouldn't expect too many more classes after that. Adding new races, though - that would be easy. You only have to add racial skills, not a whole bunch of new stuff. So I could see that possibly being more likely.
There are certainly some classic classes that might be considered "hybrid", that could share equipment already in the game. For example, a Paladin might have some equipment slots from the Warrior, some from the Cleric. A Druid might mix up Mage and Cleric, and so on. Of course they could still have some class-specific slots to give them some extra identity along with class-specific skills. While it would (obviously) require a lot of balancing work I genuinely think that adding new classes will increase the longevity of the game. Yes, people will need a larger stable of adventurers if they want to take on challenges, but I don't see that as a bad thing - I see that as a reason that people will keep on playing. I wouldn't necessarily say that I want to see them go "class crazy" either, though.
I think they should release a new class every 3 weeks like League of Legends....bwahaha, just kidding.
That would be really cool. Like instead of a fighter, going all out and using a barbarian, for example.
At least hybrids don't necessarily have to dilute the loot pool. For example: Spellblade 2x weapon 1x staff 2x arcane item 1x robe 1x boots 1x racial skill 1x warrior skill Paladin 1x weapon 2x divine weapon 1x shield 1x divine item 1x heavy armor 1x boots 1x racial skill 1x divine skill Bishop 1x staff 1x divine weapon 2x arcane item 2x divine item 1x divine armor 1x boots 1x racial skill 1x arcane skill
