Hello, everyone. I've posted a couple times in the past when I and my buddies tried to fund projects on Kickstarter (thread and thread). Both times they succeeded, and, also, both times it looks like I succeeded in not-annoying-you-nice-people-by-advertizing-at-you. Because I love Card Hunter, and I don't want to annoy you nice people by advertizing at you. But here I'm doing a third Kickstarter project, so the time has come to spread the word on all the online communities where I have a presence. Are we ready? Girded for crass commercialism? Awesome: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1615043334/lone-wolf-the-board-game You may recall my other projects were these things called "gamebooks." This is related: Lone Wolf was a classic gamebook series from the 1980's that has lived on to today. Lone Wolf - The Board Game, however, is the first tabletop wargame/board game ever to be based on it. And, in fact, it was first designed 30 years ago and has been waiting to be playtested, updated, and sold. That's what we're doing. (Cough, cough. Begin advertizing voice.) Lone Wolf is the story of the last of the Kai Lords, warrior monks who defend the land of Sommerlund against the Darklords and their minions. It is designed wholly by Gary Chalk, illustrator of Redwall, HeroQuest, and many other beloved worlds. Gary has 40 years of experience in wargaming, and backers will be pleased by how quickly it plays while still being a detailed simulation of the game world. Interested readers can see for themselves with a FREE downloadable print-and-play scenario and the beta rulebook, and can back the project through December 5. (End advertizing voice.) Anyway, I personally love this project because I grew up on the Lone Wolf gamebooks. They are responsible for my preferring to spell it "armour" despite a lack of nearby British ancestry. And here are those freebies, starting from the print-and-play scenario: http://richardhetley.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/fight-for-fogwood.pdf http://www.lonewolftheboardgame.com/images/the fight for fogwood.pdf And now the beta rulebook (unedited; yes, we are working on the typos): http://richardhetley.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/lone-wolf-beta-sept-2014.pdf (Save to computer for best display.) So I'll be busy these days, and I'll just leave this link in my signature line for awhile. I hope it's not intrusive. And hey, if you think this sort of thing is interesting, then great! Thanks for tolerating!
Hey, everyone. As is my duty, I have come to inform you . . . of a project update. I'm sure you are all deeply affected by this news. And just like last project, it's the standard "copy" I'm plastering all across the internet, so it may sound impersonal. Be aware that I am truly here for you during this time. Ahem. Our project is approaching the halfway mark in the campaign, and, thanks to backers and supporters like you, the halfway mark in funding! If you haven't looked yet, here's something new that might be of interest: Do you know the Redwall series? How about the board game Cry Havoc? The creator Gary Chalk is releasing his first-ever artbook as an add-on reward, compiling 120+ pages of work from Redwall, Lone Wolf (of course), and the other classic worlds he's illustrated. It's the first compilation that fans of these worlds have ever seen. This is available with or without the connected Lone Wolf board game so people can choose what they want: it's one of many things on offer to boost funding and we're glad to provide it separately. (And, yes, shipping is already in the price.) We're still running until December 5. Please consider pledging! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1615043334/lone-wolf-the-board-game If you're not interested yourself, but perhaps know someone else who might be, please spread the word. Any support will help Gary continue to bring new creative projects to life!
Once again I post a project update. This stuff is always an experience plastering across the internet and I hope you don't mind the advertisement. Ahem. Hello, all. Lone Wolf - The Board Game is into its final week with over 2/3 of its funding goal. Now is the time we most need your help to bring this game to life! If you don't know what's so interesting about one fantasy world out of many, I wrote an essay that's turned out popular: http://www.erfworld.com/blog/view/45115/gamebooks-or-why-are-you-playing-that It's more than just a board game on offer. We posted about Gary Chalk's artbook before (covering classics like the Redwall series), and we're also offering Autumn Snow, a new official gamebook spin-off of the original Lone Wolf gamebooks. Since the 1980's, gamers wondered about female "Kai Lords," and the question remained mostly unanswered since Lone Wolf was the last to survive: now Autumn Snow will burst onto the scene! (Edit: We've made a retraction here. The project will not include any board game content based on Autumn Snow, but will include her gamebook as stated.) But the opportunity will be gone after December 5, so please take a look, share your thoughts, share the project, and pledge if you can: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1615043334/lone-wolf-the-board-game Thank you yet again!
. . . And DONE! We've finished the campaign for Lone Wolf - The Board Game with full funding and one unlocked stretch goal, all thanks to folks like you. Thank you very much for your ear, support, and/or patience as we spread the word about this campaign. Now we begin the work that your money makes possible. If you're coming across this thread for the first time, you may find more information on the official page: http://www.lonewolftheboardgame.com A proper website will be set up there once the game goes on general sale, which we hope to be no later than November 2015. Thanks for an exciting and successful month. Onward!
