Chance is the only way to make the game fair...

    Wut?

All things being equal, a better player should always win. Relying heavily on chance is a quick and efficient way to frustrate players and is nowhere near being fair.

    Lolwutwut?

I of course meant fair, given relatively equal level of skill with the game. The element of chance in drawing the cards keeps things unpredictable, interesting, and thus more fun.

I still can't wrap my head around your logic. Luck should add flavour and not decide the outcome of a battle. Failing a 4+ roll a dozen times in a row, regardless of whom it happens to , doesn't have anything to do with "fairness" (if it goes in your favour, it feels like cheating, if not, it's downright frustrating).

You'll get into the game eventually and witness how much "fun" the RNG is.

I think this is the game you are looking for, 'cause it ain't CH.

Luck should be a factor, just not a deciding one. Having dice rolls determine the fate of your characters is wrenching control away from the players' hands. The game, thus, ends up playing itself. I don't fancy that. If you do, then CH is definitely a game for you.

Ah, the age old "randomness" argument. It's a big topic, I'd suggest moving this to PM or a new thread instead of clogging up the First Impressions thread with this debate.

Lol, arguing against RNG in card and board games is... weird. Sorry Insolentius. Either way, I'm with Sokolov. Create a new thread or pm it, guys.

I already ended it by pointing him to a game that he would obviously more enjoy. But thanks guys for jumping in after it was already over.

As much as i hate to agree with a sad clown i have to say having a problem with a game being random when its clearly both card and dice based is not logical. The fact that it is random doesn't make skill less important it makes it more important just as a heads up.

I used to have this argument all the time with people playing magic because i or they felt far superior in skill. But the fact is simple if the game is random and someone beats you 85 out of a 100 times its you not being good enough not some luck fantasy.

Luck is a pretty significant factor, though. There are some draws that no amount of skill can overcome. So I can see Insolentius's point. I think it's just something you have to accept about the game and maybe even grow to love it. I dunno'.

Now, beta feedback. Am I the only one that had a lot of trouble with the lizardmen? It seems like they and the following kobold gem/diamond missions are another difficulty roadblock. It's not quite as bad as the trogs, but it is another hard stop in progression. The lizards, particularly in the first encounter, just hit really hard, really often. I was having some pretty lousy rolls all night, though, so it could just be sampling error.

Oh, I had a few ideas for helping out with the initial difficulty hiccup. First, unlock the chest armor slot at level 1. Bump down other slot unlocks to fill in the gap. Second, start your third character (priest) out at level 2. That level makes a huge difference. My priest was a clear weak link. I think the reason the game gets so brutal is that enemy damage and range ramps up tremendously while you've got practically none of your defensive options available yet. It's a trifold problem: low hp, no armor, few and weak blocks. Every hit lands and it lands hard. Giving early characters a little more survivability will, I think, help eliminate some of the early frustration.

Also, is it worth discussing minion group card advantage? It seems a bit high but maybe they'd be too weak without such a large hand?

The lizardmen are not a issue as far as i know but the diamonds of the kobolds is just silly hard.
This based on what i have heard other people say as well as my own opinion not just my opinion.

A huuuuge thank you to Wozarg for generously sharing his account. I have played a few adventures so far, and this game is as amazing as I had imagined it to be. I'm not sure how typical my experience as a beginning player is though, lol, since he had some items that I...ahem...was able to take advantage of in the early game, but I have tried to limit myself and not use anything too powerful for my level. I had to borrow a few of your dwarves, though, until I get enough gold to make my own party. I have MojoRisin the Human Warrior and Batmage the Human Wizard so far, though, and I think I have enough after the first few adventures to get my own third guy.

I think I did run into one bug, though. The first time I tried to recruit Batmage from the Pig and Hart, it took my gold. but then when I went into the shop to equip him, he had dissappeared and I was still out the gold.

A-freakin-mazing game, though, and I can't wait to play more!

Edit: Also, I was surprised that I was able to connect to the game from work, because usually apps that require a direct connection don't work through our firewall, but however you have it set up, that is not an issue, so those that might be playing from a behind a firewall take heart that it will probably work for you too.

I just hope it works as well from my wifi network at home. I'll let you know if there are any issues there.
