In the elf thread on Kongregate, the elf warrior is a solid build. The key is to equip the warrior with range 2 attacks and to dart in and out of combat. Elven priest is pretty good to I've heard. Their speed allows them to quickly move and heal teammates.

I am currently using two dwarf mages and one elf priest for SP.

I see two big reasons for elf vampires being the best vampires:
    1. Vampires' biggest weakness is mobility. Dash helps you get in there and start touching people. Walk, not so much. Also remember that vampires do not have step attacks, unlike warriors.
    2. Elf racials are best for Vampires. The ones I have in mind (from personal experience and from watching Flax) are Escapist/Superb Mobility (for Slippery) or Healthy Trickery. Healing Dash and Elven Trickery are awesome moves for vampires! Helps with the aforementioned mobility issues, and it comes with some awesome benefits. Healing Dash + Talented Healer? Awesome. Elven Trickery? Still good!

I played one game with a Dwarf vampire and it was terrible. She was stuck walking about trying to get in range and ultimately never really did anything. My Elf vampire would've been a lot happier with some backup =P

The racial HP/Movement in Cardhunter is radically different from any other game I've played. (Admittedly, I haven't played many in the last 15 years.) Don't confuse CH elves and dwarves with the AD&D models. CH might have called the races Slow Stumps, Moving Meat, and Quick Squishies to avoid confusion. Liking elves under a different system doesn't equate to liking squishies in CH. Go by what it is, not what it's called.
That being said, CH has worked out a viable race/class system. It you build by characteristics and don't get hung up on names, it works pretty well.

Blood sucking squishies are really my fav, but I noticed Neoncat ran a good double dwarf vamp awhile back.

Dwarves make better vamps against melee characters where they need to survive larger attacks and don't need to chase them down. The extra Frenzy Aura available from Perfect Ferocity is also great against another big weakness, opponents with good armor. I agree with everything CT5 said about elf vamps. You have more time to survive a few smaller attacks from wizards and they've got less blocks and armor to prevent your healing so the ability to get close enough to hit them is more crucial.

@CT5 pointed out the most important part, which is their great mobility. Also, since ideally a vampire is healing back HP after they lose it, their lower HP total doesn't hurt them as long as you are sure to keep their health up. That said, getting hit by big attacks can cause them to lose HP faster than they can regain it. Cards like Obliterating Bludgeon and Dodge used to give warriors a good chance against vampires, but now that those have been nerfed elf vampires should be decent in warrior matchups.

Now all that said, I would say they are currently not very good (since we are not in a warrior-heavy meta right now). So if you're worried about playing the best build possible, you probably want to play something else. But if you're just looking to have fun, go for it! As the other posters have mentioned, if you have more fun playing vamps then go for it :)

And hey, sooner or later the meta might shift towards something where vampires can kick butt again :p

Heh, this is what I feel like is happening these days:

    1. Use burst team: Rank goes up to 1500's
    2. Gets sick of it^, and switches back to a melee team. Rating promptly plummets.

  8. Melancthon

    Melancthon Ogre

Mostly due to their racial movement and racial skills. Superb Mobility is pretty awesome with three self-replacing cards.

Also, I've been playing mid-1400s lately, and I'm seeing quite a few elf warriors and priests in ranks +/- 100.

EDIT: >.< Didn't realize there was a page two!

That's exactly what happened to me.Well, I never made it to 1500 yet but I had a solid 14XX when the winter-style maps came out for Christmas.
Those were a total wizardfest as they provided very little close to none blocking terrain and so my elves got obliterated and I dropped to 1280.I switched back to the burst wizard(yes Im lucky enough to have all them legendaries needed such as Blue Destruction Skull Of Savage Iljin and such) made it back to 1400 almost instantly and after playing it and against it on and on every single day I got so fed up it almost made me vomit the next time Ive seen it.
Back to my 2 Elven Warriors/Human Priest Rush Party I am :) Current rating 1328 but I honestly don't give a flying monkey no more ;)

Play what's fun for you. If you want a high rating (which honestly has no real bonus other than bragging rights), you can try to play the metagame. Otherwise, you can win the same number of games if not more while having just as much fun if not more by playing a random build of your own design.

    No worries Flax ;]
I'm following the very idea You mentioned. My attitude's got nothing to do with being discouraged or giving up.
I can adapt to the wizard-style meta whenever I feel like, I've got cards for it and I've played the burst wizard before.
Like You said...for now I just play whatever I find fun to play;] and if I ever feel I actually need that purple sword icon next to my nickname I'll go for it;]
See You Guys around in Cardhuntria.

Elf wizard with teleport is hard to fight against on current map setup. With all those walls and blocking terrain it's easy to hide him from meele or take over distant victory square at end of turn.

Elves are pretty great. Because everyone else has elaborated on the wonders of elf warriors and elf priests, I think I'll take some time to explain what my personal favorite race/class combo, Dwarf Warriors Elf Wizards, is best at. Now, we all know that elf wizards are pretty much the worst class, sadly. They aren't able to stand up in ranged combat, their mobility isn't useful if they're safe, and heaven help you if someone has Elven Manuvers on their warrior. However, they do have one very strong point, and that is their unique ability to cause the most rage out of all the classes. Take a team of three elf wizards out for a spin, and load them with a combination of cards made specifically to annoy. Now, proceed to run rings around your opponent's slow humans, relishing every last tear they cry. Pretend to let yourself get cornered, then TK them onto the other side of the wall on Gladius Triple! Load up on encumbers, and ever-so-slowly drain their health bit by bit as you stand right next to the victory squares! Use Elvish Scamper, and waltz right over those spikes! Have two Wallbuilder's Staffs per elf, pack them with more flash flood, teleport, and telekinesis, and do NO DAMAGE WHATSOEVER! If you're getting a winrate of 50% losses and 50% ragequits, you will have truly mastered the art of stalling in a manner that will cause new generations of Cardhunters to learn new swear words from the unfortunate recipient of your wrath.

Well no wonder they call you "Magic Elves"

Personally, my favorite race/class combo is the Vampire Elven Priest. People are willing to sent their bulkier warriors right up to him, only to get drained or outmaneuvered. Also good against pesky wizards who can easily fling away a dwarf warrior/priest.

Interesting point on the Elf Wizard, I used to run one back in the day, before I found out about the step 4 vibrant pain. Unfortunately they burn like paper when they face other wizards, but they are great against melee.

I tested out my Elf theory in a co-op game, buddied with @Fifjunior7 and his vamp elf and @Inkfingers and his Spear Dwarf. My deck was... let's call it "safe".

    Trollio the Sparkly
    Level 5 Elf Wizard

Of course, the moment I felt really proud of this I had to look up the extreme build for it on the wiki :(

Oh yes, definitely Elf Wizards make nice decoys.Sadly it's the only good thing about them.

I'm wondering how much potential Lifesaving Block has on a vampire priest, especially if it's an Elf (who is always a couple of good hits away from death anyway). The obvious problem with elves is that they lack HP, and on a vampire build this doesn't leave you much wiggle room between taking damage and leeching it back. But if you can let your vampire soak damage and drop to next to no life while other characters do their thing, and still (more or less) guarantee that you will survive until the next turn (so you can heal up on a Talented Healer rampage), that sounds like it could be quite powerful.

Elf Wizard does seem pretty difficult to make work, though. All those free moves, dodges and so on are a lot more useful in melee range, which is exactly where an Elf Wizard doesn't want to be. I'd rather have a Human Wizard, with racials that add flexibility to the whole team (potentially including the ability to feed a bunch of short-range cards to the close-combat specialists).

You can't get many in a deck (4 if you want to also use vamp weapons), and you can still be killed from behind or by burns and terrain.
