So me and Ector were having a discussion on Frenzy Priests and I meant to bring this topic up. What are the best weapon(s) for a frenzy priest? There are plenty of great weapons like the old Whiteglow Flail, Healing Hand Mace is still good, St. Olf's Fiery Pike does the job well ESPECIALLY when you lack Bleneth's items, but they all lack attacks. Melee, specifically. Heck, most divine weapons only have 3 attacks. ** I like to use a priest dual-wielding St. Olf's Fiery Pike, you get 4 Stab/4 Fiery Stab/4 Mass Frenzy. That way, I always know that I can hit an enemy when I stand two squares away, before I even draw the attacks. Also, it frees up divine item slots for other things. I'd like to mention Huetotl's Firebrand here. I've always wanted one, you gain a Sundering Strike and Triple Heals but you lose two Stabs for a net loss of one attack. Now I am reconsidering...St. Olf's does have an above-average 4/6 attacks. ** All the items mentioned above lack the oomph and awe of even common warrior weapons. The damage doesn't even come close. Sure you can add a few vampiric attacks from divine items, but what about the strongest non-unholy melee attacks available? Let's try and build a priest like a warrior. So assuming your frenzy priest has two Bleneth's Skull (or two Bleneth's Frenzy Medallion, if you need those tokens!), what are the best divine weapons to use for an aggro priest supporting two warriors? Or any other synergistic weapons. Here are the divine weapons I know of with the most melee attacks: Lifesuck Spear Common, assortment of decent attacks for a fairly high cost. Chalchu's Hammer Two good attacks, and some spearism for one token. The cost is right... St. Portia's Maul High overall damage for a low cost. Is this the best weapon? For tokenless, quite possibly. I'll mention Dark Drewg's Mace as a potential Frenzy Priest Weapon. High overall damage, usable Frenzy buffs, low cost. There has to be something high-level out there better than lifesuck spear. So if you have any suggestions, fire away.
Scouring Axe and Demon's Golden Blade are good against multiple opponents. Even against a single target, Obliterating Chop is one of the better damaging cards when it comes to priests.
Good suggestions so far... except why Bynzer's Black spear? Low damage, only 4 melee attacks (albeit spearism), I would almost prefer Madman's Maul over that, let alone a Fiery Pike.
Unfortunately there isn't. Lifesuck spear is not bad actually, but yeah it doesn't compare to warrior weapons. I've been playing my frenzy priest this way and I've found it's extremely effective. I also run 3 Shuddering Relics as my divine items to give me a total of 7 Mass Frenzy and 11 attacks. This lets you use your major tokens on items like Mail Of The Martyr, Sliding Boots, and Perfect Command. I think this is the best way to make an "aggro" frenzy priest that still has some support abilities.
Yes, the budget frenzy priest with two Fiery Pikes + 3 Shuddering Relics was my first successful foray into mid-ranked play, along with my 1 Double-Edged Sword, 1 Lochaber Axe and 1 Bejewelled Shortsword. Those were the days.... Nowadays, I don't like the Shuddering Relic anymore. I use Bleneth's Skull and _____ _____ and an ____ ____. It's great to run Mail of the Martyr/Sliding Boots/Perfect Command if you have the tokens, that's for sure. 7 Mass Frenzy ftw. That's all, folks. I'd love to see someone actually use Scouring Axe/Demon's Golden Blade in ranked play, though.
Ok Jade I'm pretty sure you're trolling here Why is Bynzer's Black Spear good? Consistent vamp attacks obviously. Taken in purely form of dmg you could say, well its got a little range but not much else going for it. But draining attacks also need to be considering in HP swing value. 4 dmg/8 swing at its most basic, unopposed by armor, with super helpful range 2. And let's face it, most of those spears are going to be boosted by MF, so our value shift to 7 dmg/14 swing, unopposed. Then we add in talented healer and these attacks become 7 dmg/16 swing (cantrip), add some fairly common frenzy armor or unholy frenzy and TH + MF and you start getting into the realm of of stuff like 9-11 dmg / 20-24 swing (cantrip), pretty good for a range 2 atk which you're carrying a ton of ! Of course the full swing only happens if you're less then full health, opp has enough hp left to steal, and armor is often involved so the values start shifting around a bunch, but yeah that's the basic premise and why such a weapon would be highly valued. So sure, for a basic support priest I'd often go for fiery pike / white flail / etc, but when it comes to the more specialized vampire then you start to factor in other stuff. EDIT : was responding to thread title : best priest weapons, then I see you talking only about frenzy priest supporting 2 war.. confused
OK well thank you for clearing that up... I never specifically said no vampires but I'm going with that.
I missed that too, UiA explained perfectly why the Black Spear is perfect for a frenzy priest in the context of a vampire build. To give you another alternative to the topic on hand, you can also consider Nimbus Blade for a mf support build. The attacks are good, the Unholy Frenzy lasts for 2 rounds and if you want to get close to a Vampire, Impenetrable Nimbus is a must.
That's actually a pretty good suggestion. I've also come up with a handful: ()()Darkblood Glaive - 3 good attacks, plus Savage Curse can be nasty on a step warrior! Best combined with Martyr's Blessing/Elven Maneuvers. []()Mindshrinker - Again, 3 decent attacks, plus those Mind Worms can coerce your opponents into coming closer. ()()Inkdark Halberd - 5/6 attacks for a low cost. ()()Giant Skeletal Arm (who doesn't love Raging Strike?) + the damage is actually pretty high... Similar to Madman's Maul. ()()Xipe's Maquah has 3 Unnerving Strikes plus a Spear. One of the best for it's cost. []()White Halberd would be nice when you stack Polearm Slash. 4 attacks total, plus two Inspiration for draw power. Then we have some healing items with good attacks: [][]Gauixl's Sacred Maquah -Has 3 Sundering Strikes, 1 Lunging Bash and 2 Team Heal [][]Godtouched Mace - 3 attacks/3 Team Heal []()Spear Of The Cozqui - Polearm Slash + 2 Unnerving Strikes, and 3 Triple/Team Heal I'll come up with a summary post and in-depth comparisons if that's all the items.
Good topic. I've been working the Warrior/Warrior/Priest build for a long time, and I still don't feel like I've achieved the optimal Priest. I build with the philosophy that any one unit needs to be able to pull out a close match on their own, so I tend to avoid pure support Priests. If Mother Superioror is the last woman standing, I want her to be able to do some damage. I also find that seven Mass Frenzy is the right number for me. Here are some of the more effective combinations I've come up with, either on my own or with suggestions from like-minded Card-Hunters (keeping in mind that I almost always run a human Priest for Bloody Command): Full Bleneth's set (Skull/Tome/Medallion) with two Vampire's Blades and Focused Healer. A Hybrid Vamp. Talented Healer makes people hesitant to get into melee range. Four Loner cycles well but can be dangerous when you draw multiples. Low-level weapons, but it frees up a lot of tokens for things like Sliding Boots and Mail of the Martyr. Full Bleneth's with Healing Hand Mace with Sacrificial Axe and Focused Piety. Some big attacks with Healing Hand. Pressing Bash is great tech, and again, a couple of traits to cycle. Focused Piety combos really well with Triple Heals, Team Heal, and Mass Frenzy. A lower-than-optimal number of attacks in my opinion, but they are all pretty good, with eight damage being the lowest. The high incidence of Altruism triggers helps make up for the low number of attack cards. I recently had a string of losses against Wizards, so I switched things up a bit to work in some Purge and went with: Bleneth's Skull and Medallion with a Purging Charm/St. Olafs and a Mendicant's Spear. Mendicant's Spear is a test, allowing for all stab attacks (great with Captain Cedric's Boots) as well as an emergency Nimbus and Boosted Heal. I think Healing Hand or Glinting Eye might still be better. Less offense than I would like, but I hate encumber, and burning to death is such an ignominious way to go out. Good for blanking opposing Mass Frenzy as well. I JUST managed to save up enough for the Dark Dreweg's Mace that showed up at Randy's last week, so I'm going to give that a shot in my next build. Honorable mention to weapons that I've used with some degree of success in the past: Hefty Mace. Decent attacks and Accelerated Thought. Healing Pulse is weak, but sometimes draws blocks. Heavy Mace. Good damage for a single minor token, Inspiration and a sometimes useful buff in Righteous Frenzy. I'll probably never run it again now that I have Dark Dreweg's. Big Stick. Haven't run it in a while. Minor Heal and Simple Bash sort of ruin it for me, but I've had some fun with Entangling Roots to pin down shifty Wizards.
