Example: Last adventure in Frozen Throne. You not only have to beat this adventure, you have to beat it with at least two characters remaining. If I have only one character left, I always end up running around and around the room chasing the monsters (who get two mobility cards each round and use ranged attacks) until I finally "Resign Battle". They don't kill me - I simply give up after ~20 rounds because there is no way to beat it. I'm sure I could use elves or other cards to win. But in my opinion it is more enjoyable to either kill the monsters or be killed myself. Resigning a battle out of boredom with no winner or loser should be avoided at all costs.
Well, the win conditions are set in advance so rather than running around you might want to resign right away? I mean, it doesn't end as a stalemate because you've actually lost (since you can't fulfill the win condition). I'm not trying to sound flippant or sarcastic either so apologies if I come off like that. Are you basically asking to change missions so that win conditions can happen no matter how many characters you have remaining (1+ that is)?
Not at all. It's a fair mechanic, and it requires pre-planning and a different strategy. Some (most?) players may find that enjoyable. After re-reading my post, it appears I was making a universal statement on behalf of all players. Please let me rephrase. I'm simply offering a suggestion/feedback. For me (one player), I find the stalemates are much less enjoyable than a clean victory or defeat. If the computer were playing against itself, it would run around the room all day for eternity and never lose. But players have other things to do like eat and sleep. So we resign and lose. The non-eating, non-sleeping computer uses our humanity against us. Fair, but cheap and unfulfilling. ...for this player anyway. Thanks for reading.
Surely as soon as you recognise that it is a Kobayashi Maru, you would quit and come back with a different group that would let you win?
