The problem with the multiplayer maps, in general, is that they heavily favor dwarves and penalize elves. Elves' advantage is that mobility and maneuverability. Dwarves' is durability. Dwarves can close up and fight. Elves want to evade and use the hit-and-run tactics. So far, all of the multiplayer maps -- especially this week's -- restrict mobility and maneuverability. They basically neutralize elves' advantage. What's the point of an elf having four movements when all the road blocks slow the elf down to one or two movements, which basically equalizes an elf's movement to that of a dwarf? On the other hand, dwarves heavily benefit from the maps' restricted.
I agree, there really is no downside for playing 3 dwarves right now. I definitely changed to dwarves since you have to stop every other step anyway, that and it's incredibly easy to avoid mages now lol.
The biggest downside for playing dwarf is you can be pinned in one place with most of Cold attacks, it remains whichever the map you play. Beside, I'm currently run a 3-elves team and I find no problem at all.
yeah being pinned down due to cold attacks is something you suffer with as humans too, but with dwarves you have shrug it off, and charge. That mixed with purges means encumbers are no problem, especially when all the other classes have to stop at the rough terrain as well. I'm not complaining that it's impossible to play elves, I'm just liking the fact that I can play dwarves and get the big HP bonus with almost no draw back (again, since I don't have to transverse big open areas).
Well, somehow my 3-elves team runs just fine. The map won't reduce your mobility too much if you place your characters right. Beside, you forgot a fact that elves can reach VPs much faster than dwarves, which means they can get 1 or 2 points for free.
