tldr; If I am in the keep and put a character in my party, rename them and then remove them from party they seem to temporarily revert to their original name. If I refresh the page their new name shows up. Background: I have way too many characters from trying to complete the quests. To make things easier on myself I decided to name them based on what they are (elf mage, dwarf cleric, etc). Naming seemed to work fine at first but then when I removed a character from my party their name reverted to what it was before and it happened consistently. I gave up naming them and closed the browser and when I went back later they had the new names I had given them. Extra info: I was renaming them in the keep The character I renamed were not in my party, moved to my party to rename and then the bug occurred when I removed them from my party after renaming.
