I thought it might be fun to have in-game archives for cards, monsters, and items. You (the devs) could put in browsable "albums," like these: - The Cardhuntrian Bestiary: which would include all the monsters you had fought so far, the adventures they could be fought in, and the cards you had revealed from their decks (i.e., it'd only show the cards you'd seen them use, with the others of the deck merely showing their back); - Smiths and Spellbooks: showing all the items you had acquired so far (even if you sold them afterwards; perhaps these could be grayed out to show you don't currently possess any, or maybe every item entry could have its "owned count"), including treasures (because why not), and the cards each of them adds to the deck. For clarification, this archive would only include items you have acquired, not every item ever. Ideally, both of those albums could link to: - Magicks and Martialities: showing all the cards that you've seen monsters use as well as all the cards provided by items you've acquired. I think it'd be a fun way to let everyone check their "completion status." What's everyone's opinion on this? P.S.: Apologies in advance (what an odd thing to put in a post-scriptum) for any mistakes; English isn't my first language.
Ohhh, I thought you were talking about books for "game rules," which is another discussion on this forum. Instead you mean more like "manuals" or "encyclopedias" or something. People have posted about this sort of thing before. Yes, I particularly like the idea of a bestiary. I also like flavor text, and monsters could use those in such a page. (I might ALSO like to be the one to WRITE those descriptions for all the nasties, but that's another matter.)
I suppose the terminology can go either way. I searched the first 4 or 5 pages and I couldn't find any such threads (or I misunderstood/was mislead by their titles) - did any Blue Manchurian reply to such threads on the feasability of doing it, or if it's planned?
I like your ideas a lot. It'd be a really good idea to add a rulebook, a bestiary and a card encyclopedia to the game itself. That would only add to the game's artstyle, seeing as it's so detailed in resembling classic tabletop gamestyle. You'd simply "drag" the screen to one of the three manuals mentioned below while in any place in the game (except for the map), and you would be able to interact with them by hovering over and clicking on pages. By hovering, you could, for example, show info like when hovering over cards, and show if you can flip a page. Words written in blue can be clicked, and would take you to a different page (much like normal web-based links, obviously, heh heh ). I don't think it would be too difficult to include this in the game itself. The only concern I have with this issue is that, if these things get added to the game, it would render the recently-established Card Hunter wiki next to useless. Anyway, let me share my ideas on this matter: 1. Rulebook A rulebook, containing basic gameplay, what to do, how to do it, and how to win, as well as more advanced rules about several strategies and the like. This would be especially useful for these two reasons: one, I feel like the game sometimes doesn't explain core mechanics enough and sometimes even leaves things out (this seemed more clear to me because I'm quite new to a game of this genre), and two, the game's Help page, which only includes the basic stuff, often has loading troubles. 2. Bestiary A bestiary is indeed a nice idea. Like you said, it would be nice to be able to review stuff you know about monsters that you've already encountered, what cards you've seen them use, and where (which adventure) they could be found. Another good thing to include would be a small amount of tips on how to deal with this particular type of monster. There are of course, players out there who don't wish to receive such help, so perhaps it'd be a good idea if you could reveal these tips by clicking on a button in the manual, like for example having three buttons that say "Reveal Hint 1", "Reveal Hint 2", etc etc. 3. Item/card catalog How did you call it? Spellbooks and... something, I think. That sounds like a good idea, too. It wouldn't be, say, a list that shows all items in the game that you can use as a checklist, but rather it would show which items you have, or have had. It could also say, for example, how you got a particular item. Did you get it in the campaign or in multiplayer? If you got it in campaign, which adventure did you beat for it? You know, stuff like that. Oh, and finally, it could also name a few instances in which it would be handy to have a specific item and/or card. And if it's about a card only, it could name a few scenarios in which it'd be good to use said card! OK, I've rambled on enough. I've heard many people tell me that I use too many words, especially when typing, ha ha. I hope there were a few good ideas that had their origin in MY head instead using somebody else's great ideas! Please let me know if you can use a bit of inspiration on this matter, because I'd really love to see these ideas appear in the game.
erm, two misconceptions. a) 'recently-established Card Hunter wiki' - the wiki is almost a year old. b) 'next to useless.' - there are plenty of games with in-game help and fan-based wikis. Are their wikis useless ? hmm.... Of course, if the devs want to implement a better help system in-game...all the better. Wiki contributors will still continue logging and cataloging data for the masses.
Good point. I really didn't think of it that way -- and I really thought that the wiki was recently made. That makes the idea of a rulebook/bestiary/item&card encyclopedia an even better idea, don't you think? If it doesn't do any damage to the Card Hunter wiki, it'd be all that much easier to include it in the game. This last bit is for JBento: I'd really like to share some ideas with you about this topic. I think it would really help new players, especially if they are new to this genre (and I speak out of experience, since I'm one of those people). And there are probably lots of players who would indeed like to be able to check their progress, don't you think? Anyway, let me know if you'd like to exchange ideas on this matter!
I'd be happy to exchange ideas, though I don't know what we could do besides posting them here for the Blue Manchurians to see.
Hmm, I've been thinking about this... Loot item drops are random, aren't they? I mean, you don't know what you'll get until you get it, with a few exceptions of course -- treasure hunts don't apply, or at least they show you one of the items you'll get. Also, loot drops are limited to the level of the adventure you're playing, right? Or you only get loot of a level that's close to your party's current level, by which I mean their overall level? In that case, it wouldn't mean much if the card/item catalog showed where/how you got a certain piece of loot, am I right? Just thought I'd share my thoughts on this matter!
