AND DINNER! time efficiency 10/10 EDIT: I forgot to mention that i had to wait for 20 mins for the game to finish
Yuck, this is not the game for "CENSORED"; I expect (and hope) he won't be playing much longer. Glad you got victory and dinner, though!
As long as you didn't go the draw engine route and stall things (which it doesn't sound like), that guy's just so wrong on so many levels. Making people spend their cards before you're out of options is how the game should be played after all. Also, as long as his name really isn't CENSORED - I believe this thread should be ok
Sounds like the same guy I played against early in release of the game. He yelled at me and calling me a noob and a coward with no strategy because I ran my dwarf warrior away from his. I am grateful though that he didnt stall too much.
Well done I just surprised he did not said "i spent 25$ on this game go use ur stuff first or i will report u coz i payed money".
Ah, the tactical pass move. I did enjoy some of that when I first got my Wyvrn's Lavastaff out to play some volcano.
ya i had a guy cry'n about using lava on him also, most likely the same guy. as i tell them all that don't like my play style that they can always quit the match at any time they like. i love how they cry about it not being a skilled play style lol and in the end i win, so looks like my skill was better then his
I don't if this guy handled it well, but there should be something encouraging players not to pass when they still have actions to play. The victory squares help, but cards like Volcano and WW/WWE just create a stall: you'd like to get on with it, but if you move first you're putting yourself at a disadvantage. ... This isn't the only problem with WW/WWE, or volcano for that matter, but that's been argued to death already.
I don't see it as a big problem. If both player pass, the rounds ends, player filter their card ready for the next round. Whoever pass first discard first (correct me if I'm wrong). Now there's a strategic decision. Did your opponent not discard that volcano ? did you keep an extra movement card ? Are you stalling for your own Team Run ? There's another strategic level of bait, if you moved 1-2 characters, and he is passing, waiting for you to move the last one, you can simply pass instead (bait him to pass the round), effectively used 1-2 move card to advance your characters for free, while he stuck in places. That's a clear card advantages. In short, volcano create a mind games situation. Sometimes even if I dont have volcano, I bait my opponent into thinking I have one, letting me advance my characters for free (similar to the scenario described above)
It's a mindgame where the person with the Volcanos/WWs/WWEs is holding all the advantages. The person with the Team Runs is forced to hoard their defensive cards, not knowing when the next Volcano will land. The person with the attack cards can just play them as they come, and if they fail so what? No loss. My real problem with this is that it's a tactic that makes the game unfun for one of the players. It isn't about back-and-forth tactics and combat, there's no exchange between the players. It's simply one player waiting for the other one to screw themselves. And if the other player does it they do it because they're bored or frustrated, not because they think it's the smart move.
erm, actually...once you know what they are doing, its actually pretty easy to predict and counter against. Pretty much someone passes consecutively with a hand chock full of cards, I know what they have up their sleeve. Denial play is easy once you know its coming.
I sometimes pass on the first round for no reason other than I'm still in a single-player mindset (where passing first is almost always a good idea). I'm glad no one has started flaming me because of it.
Guises, unfortunately you have to react to people's strategies to be successful. I understand you expect only others to respond to yours and not you. This is part of the game. Volcano is not an over powered card. You just have e to be smart about it and you can beat it easily.
No one said anything about over powered, and the other bit was just insulting. You clearly don't understand my argument here. I'm not going to beat it into the ground though, I think I made the point that I was trying to make. I guess if you really need some clarification you can PM me.
I am trying to get to the heart of the issue. Volcano like cards have acceptable level of influence to you or your opponent's strategy. Therefore, your claim that it the card ruins the game is unfounded. If we are to follow your acceptable threshold then the whole game falls apart. Mages should be banned because I have to chase them with my WWP build and that is no fun.
Passing as the very first action is quite often a good idea even without a Volcano. (not to mention that Whirlwind also justifies the strategy of waiting until your opponent has played his moves.) If the opponent passes too, it's still good to have 2 movement cards for each character for the next round. Unless of course all your starting cards are great, but that's rarely the case for me.
