Friends, I really hope you rethink the anti-idle mechanic. I idle because I have to -- my games stretch out across hours because I take turns when I have a break between tasks at work. I go back and fourth between the game and cooking. I walk the dogs and come back to pick up where I left off. This is possible, because the game is turn-based, browser-based and casual. Please do not break my way of playing. I love your game, but I cannot play it all in one sitting. Being turn-based is a big part of why I love it in the first place.
This wasn't an intentional change at all. There's some default behavior in our server framework that kicks "idle" connections (i.e. connections from which it hasn't received *any* messages in some time). We were fixing an old only-meant-for-development workaround for that functionality - only it broke when there were lots of users on the server, which meant those messages stopped coming and the default behavior kicked in. The solution we have is meant to drop connections where the other side isn't even responding anymore, as opposed to still-connected-but-idle sessions.
Oh, joy! Glad to hear it. Thanks for making a game I feel strongly enough about to post so much about keeping it playable for me.
Is the server stable now? I was kicked before this announcement so i'm a bit afraid of starting more adventures
My first game of the new build was not a success. It was a multiplayer match, and I immediately noticed a problem with the sound... the UI sounds from clicking buttons and receiving chat messages worked, but nothing else. There was no sound at the start or end of turns, no match-finding music, no sound for any cards etc. ... Then, at the end of the first round, it was apparently my turn to discard but I couldn't do anything. On my screen it still said it was the other player's turn, but my counter was ticking down and they told me I was meant to be discarding. I took a screenshot, and I copied the console log. Here is a complete copy of the console log, which includes information about a syncing error. (By the way, is it possible to attach files to forum posts?) After that, I tried 'drop' in the console, and it failed to reconnect to the match. [edit] The next game after reloading the page worked without any problem.
I'm still getting a lot of lost connections; in its current state the game is unplayable. A problem that may be related is that when discarding cards the game doesn't respond. I can right click cards, or access the menu, or retire from the game, but the card I am trying to discard just sits there and the game just waits for me endlessly. Eventually it times out, and then the connection gets lost.
I lost the connection one hour after the fix, the weird part is that I wasn't able to load the game, the site or the forum for another hour or so.
i cant loging to game Card Hunter is currently down for maintenance. Please try again in a few minutes. Try Again ?
done and still cant login to game Card Hunter is currently down for maintenance. Please try again in a few minutes. Try Again
About dropped connections and intentional leavers - if you would manage to create a possibility to reconnect that won't be an issue.
I'm sure I read that it's being worked on and I thoroughly second it as the best option. Only allowing 5min to reconnect to the server will protect from having to wait 15min after rage quitters leave which is the only downside to being able to reconnect to MP.
