I absolutely agree. Blue Manchu could learn a lot watching the genre-related Kickstarters. The most successful (imho) succeed because they a) offer a great product (check, I'd say) at relevant prices (i.e. for an Indie game up to $20) while offering a huge amount of stretch goals that often everybody gets (look at the frenzy that was the Hex TCG Kickstarter for example), and c) then offers upgrades for money that appeal to gamers with huge checkbooks (vanity or collector's items). If people like your product and want to spend money, but don't find a way, you really need to rethink the marketing mix for your product.
