I am a mod on another website that is based on a board game (fumbbl.com for those interested). Spectating matches there is very common place and therefore I would much like it if a few of the things implemented there could be implemented here too. Here are just a few ideas... 1/ Arrange current games in order of when they started, people want to see a game from the beginning, not halfway through 2/ Give more details of the games in progress, such as ranking of participants, current round etc. 3/ Hide spectator chat from the participants, this stops spectators passing on hints and tips to games in progress, only other spectators should be able to see the fellow spectators' chat. Everyone should see the player's chat 4/ Emotes.. Allow spectators to /cheer, /boo, /laugh etc.(buy new emotes with pizza?) during games to show their feelings at certain moves. A sound effect should play to all people in the room, including the players. There must be some sort of cool down though to stop spamming (30 seconds or once per move for example) 5/ An icon to show how many people are spectating, when you start running KO tournaments (pizza entry with top prizes?) it will be great to see how many there are watching you. I am sure other people can think of other great ideas, but let not the spectating get left behind for this game, it is a great way for newbies to learn and to build a great community spirirt.
I don't really care about the emotes or the icon showing how many people are spectating - but I think suggestions 1-3 are all important changes. On a somewhat related topic, I've noticed that there's some inconsistency in the size of the graphics for cards when in spectator mode. Particularly for the cards on the top of the screen, some cards are big and some cards are small. (Typically they are all big when I first start spectating, but newly drawn cards are small.)
OK, since this thread is on spectating improvements - I'd really like spectating for singleplayer. That way, friends can hang about each others games to chat and watch.
That's a bug that's been on our list since we introduced spectating that we haven't had time to get back to and fix yet. The initial cards for both players are too large - they don't animate down to the correct size like they do when they're "dealt" from the deck.
This is actually a mighty nice idea. Perhaps an invitation from the player would be in order though. So that people could not spectate random peoples amazing strategies! dunno..
