    The Witcher series.
    And then Mass Effect.

    Hmm, Bard's Tale for nostalgia...
Maybe Ultima IV for the best story...
I played World of Warcraft longer than anything else...
Kingdom Hearts was fun to play with the kids...
I don't know. Picking a favorite game is like picking a favorite song or book. There are just too many choices and it really depends on my mood.

The best RPG I have ever played must be pen & paper ones,
but if I was forced to choose among digital RPGs I
have tried ...it must have been NWN1 RP Multiplayer on a
specific server I found and loved (forgot the name), sadly no
one ever managed to create as good a server (including content)
for NWN2, thus I haven't played much if any RPG since :(

(yeah I could have made a server myself, but the new script
system they introduced was just too confusing and far from
as friendly as the script system worked in NWN1)

P&P and both Newervinter, sadly not so many players online there.

Seems most of my list is mentioned, so I 'll just add it here:

Dragon Age Origins, The Elder scrolls 4: Oblivion,
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, Mass Effect,
    Tales Of Symphonia

For me there is no doubt - it's Suikoden II - a work of art.[IMG]

  7. Ravel

    Ravel Mushroom Warrior

    Planescape: Torment

It's an obvious choice, and with good reason. Aside from the main plot, I've not played a game whose world and lore enthralled me more. Seemingly unimportant characters had their own uniquenesses and quirks which often had profound philosophical ideas behind them (e.g. the art gallery owner who blinded herself so that she would appreciate her works more when she finally regains her sight). I loved learning about the different planes and alignments (and different interpretations of the same alignment) and how the creatures and beliefs from those different planes collide to make Sigil what it is.

Truly a great game, and a must-play for gamers who appreciate a good story & setting.

  8. Umbra

    Umbra Kobold

    Grandia One(PS1)
    Jade Cocoon One(PS1)
    Dark Souls (PC)
    Dragons Age Origins (PC)

Overall I'd probably say Dark Souls, however the others are amazing as well.

The Witcher 1. Awesome for its time.

  10. Doctor Blue

    Earthbound. Awesome game right there.

Mother 3. No other game has made me fall in love with the world and it's characters, make me feel the emotional punches as much as this game.

  12. Doctor Blue

    Doctor Blue Orc Soldier

I'm surprised at how many people like the third over the others. Mother 3 isn't bad at all, but it's pretty generic. What makes Mother 1 & 2 so awesome is how quirky and unique they are.

No... because it is not an RPG... it is a miniature card game hybrid. It is one of the best miniature games I have played and I can see who it could be adapted to different genre of miniatures.

Planescape: Torment, with nothing even coming close. It's the only RPG where I'd say it had better writing than most books I've read. It was just so good. :) But even though they have thin stories, or partly none, I also loved the Ultima series, the Drakkensang games, the early Final Fantasy titles (up to six, and maybe eight), Morrowind, Baldur's Gate, NWN1 (with expansions), and quite a few others, all for different and individual reasons. Currently, I'm playing The Witcher (1) which is a superb experience, though no doubt in part because I've read the books that the games are based on, so there are a lot of "ooh!" and "aaah!" moments where I recognize characters and places.

Big fan or Morrowind, BG/BG2/Icewind Dale I/II, Planescape Torment, FFXII (Japanese Version).

Edit: Disgaea series is awesome. I got the first one the first day it came out. Back in the day I used to tell people about it an no one knew what it was. Good to see it has gotten so popular. All of those SRPG games are epic.

Tales from the Floating Vagabond :p

Die and Paper: Star Wars RPG (West End Games version)
PC: (vacant - every RPG I like on PC is available elsewhere)
    NES: Dragon Warrior/Quest 4
    SNES: Final Fantasy III/6
    Gameboy/GBC: Final Fantasy Adventure/Seiken Densetsu
GBA: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
    N64: (vacant)
    Gamecube: Tales of Symphonia
    Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles
DS/3DS: The World Ends With You
    PS1: Lunar 2
PS2: Final Fantasy X(I stood in my room and APPLAUDED at game's end)
    PS3: (current)Deus Ex:HR

As you may tell, when it comes to my RPGs story is PARAMOUNT, followed closely by game mechanics.
