Is Staggering Blow still supposed force you to discard if it is blocked?

So, a slime used Staggering Blow on me, which reads, "Immediately discard the two oldest revealed cards in the target's hand.", and my character successfully used a Parry card which reads "Block Melee. Draw a card." To further explain what "Block Melee" means, it says "When an enemy plays a melee card targeting you, cancel that card" when you mouse over.

So, is the "Immediately discard" section of the Staggering Blow supposed to trigger before the character is given a chance to block?

Yes. Therefore, this is a special sort of anti- "whatever-the-enemy-has-in-hand" ability. Hence War Cry likewise says "Target immediately discards all Block cards in hand": if the enemy could Block this effect, it would be much less powerful.

I like this twist in gameplay, making Blocks weaker in a situational way.

Ok cool - just wanted to make sure this was the intended behavior before going over to the bug report forum.

It's . . . probably what they intended. On a related note, I'm annoyed that the connected word "staggering" is applied inconsistently about this. If Staggering Blow is so "staggering," I'd really like it if Staggering Chop were the same. I can see someone getting confused.

Immediate precedes any other effect of cards, might be something for the help text (not that it's that common yet).
