It seems like warriors are a bit under powered. Sure, they get three weapon slots (though I always have about the same number of attack cards in my hand as my cleric, except sometimes those are mixed with handy healing or utility cards), but they seem to have fewer options in combat than a cleric, no advantages in regards to armor that I can find, and roughly only enough health to take maybe one hit more than a same level cleric, if that. Any thoughts on warrior balance?
There are cards/items that you just can't get on a cleric. Not sure what stage you are at in the game, but warriors are a big asset. Currently my problem with multiplayer is the warriors being too strong.
I can give you a few concrete examples of things that I love on my warriors that aren't available on my clerics (at least so far): Shredding Strike 6 damage, penetrates and destroys armor, yum. All Out Attack: double damage. Enough said. You can even get it on a helmet Welk's Helm Reliable mail on a helmet: Weakling's Helmet Stun: Massive Club True Mail: two Reliable Mail on one item Heavy Armour. You can 2 of these on a common item, making an elf as slow as a dwarf, but obscenely tanky. Nimble Strike. Damage: My priest damage caps out at a 11 damage on a Powerful Bludgeon on a Malign Mace, but my warriors have access to a bunch of 14 and 17 damage attacks (for example Powerful Sword, Blocking Mace and Warrior's Mace are all common, and Infused Greatclub is rare is common). In general, warriors seem to be tougher, faster, and hurtier than priests. I can equip Reliable Mail on any class, but my wizard needs to take a drawback to get one, my priest can only equip one, and my warrior can take 2, or 3 with a drawback.
Also (admittedly I just started playing yesterday) my priest doesn't pull attacks near as often as my warrior. Maybe he would if I speced his deck differently but I don't think I currently have the right items for a pair or trio of priests to not wind up stuck with buffs, debuffs, heals, and moves when what I really need is a good solid attack.
Perhaps the distinctions you guys are talking about should be more apparent earlier in the game? I'm at level 17 and I really find my cleric can attack almost as well as my warrior, but my cleric also has access to some excellent healing and utility cards as well as the same armor my warrior can get (even better in some cases, like the item that has two Arrogant Armor cards). Some of the cards Rorre described I have not seen, which isn't helping matters. I do have All Out Assault but it only works once on a single attack, and I guess I'm just unlucky as every time I had it, my other attack would be like a Penetrating Stab or something. Heavy Armor makes my dwarf warrior unplayable, and I have plenty of attack cards but since you only draw two cards a turn it rarely matters. In fact, having so many attack cards makes my dwarf warrior even harder to use. I am leveling an Elf warrior but he's only level 7 so he's some ways to go before I can replace the dwarf. Maybe my problem isn't with warriors, but with dwarfs? I should have made my dwarf a wizard, ironically mobility isn't as important for them.
Hmm, warriors have easier time getting attacks. My "offensive" priest still has 25% less attack cards than my warrior (20 vs.15). Quite significant difference imho. Nah, Dwarves just need more Step attacks and some high value movement from boots or skills. Hitpoints help a ton.
Ratio of attack cards vs utility cards is the reason why. Warriors have possible 6 more attack cards in their deck than a priest can. Yes a priest can have some damaging cards in their divine items, but not at the same power as some of the weapon attacks.
Well, the distinction I mentioned is apparent early in the game, at least to me. But maybe that's because I just haven't found the items that give a priest lots of attacks yet. My priests mostly have healing cards, frenzies, and a very few attack cards plus the occasional offensive use of Bad Medicine or Misguided Heal.
Hey, I like this thread - it's a nice counterpoint to the one about thinking priests are useless. Think this proves it's down to how people play the game!
Wow, my priests aren't very good at killing things themselves but they've kept my other characters alive and buffed my warrior into making a kill too often for me to call them useless.
I'd never go adventuring without a priest - was referring to a discussion (which I can't seem to find atm) where the op claimed he couldn't for the life of him see anyone taking priest, and that they were useles.
Every party i build start with a priest and then the others come in. As i have said before to some people the strongest first character you can add to any party is always a priest because of their massive flexibility.
I keep damage cards on my priest weapon and utility on the items. Suprises people when my priest cleaves for 10 damage to two targets.
Oh yeah, I just got that weapon today. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but I like the sound of Obliterchop, especially combined with Strong Chop.
I'm currently throwing 3 Priests against the gauntlet online. They are most definitely not useless! *Edit* - Warriors have so many different attack options that I'd choose one specifically for the consistency of pain they deliver. If you want to ruthlessly murder people in 1 round, go Warrior.
