My characters don't level up in quests in single player. I'm not talking about levelling above lv18. I can't even get level 2 for a newly hired character after completing quests. Why is it so I can't really undersand.
I think this has been discussed a lot, there's no xp rewarded for Quests (which is not adventures for those that don't know, rather than the challenge mode that's unlocked after you beat the game). I think the main reason for not getting xp for these quests is that they're not on a cooldown - you can basically do all quests for an adventure in a row.
Yeah, it looks like we're getting one "thread about XP in quests" per week: http://www.cardhunter.com/forum/threads/question-quests-and-xp.1763 http://www.cardhunter.com/forum/threads/about-quests.1909 And I still think the issue is as I posted before this started: in the most recent builds, quests only unlock once you've "beaten the beta," which changes how they function. MikeF, quests were never intended to give you XP. I'll just copy this again: It's supposed to be that you give up earning XP to earn better loot. And, upon further discussion, it became clear there's another benefit: Running other parties is fun. But some people don't think to do it. If you could see the quests at all during normal play, then it would encourage you to think about other parties, and you wouldn't be so annoyed to get a single party at maximum level and have to go back. This is, of course, only going to drive people more batty if and when the game extends up to level 50.
I read these before I got through the campaign and they seemed to make sense. "Okay" I thought to myself, "that's just how it works." I didn't really understand the impact of this until I hit quests. I realize it's not this extreme but it _feels_ like I should go through the campaign fully with 3 different parties before even attempting quests so I can have 3 of each race, and 3 of each class. Gah... that's rough.
Couldn't agree more. Apparently, they aren't who complain about the quests-XP-problem. It would be a different situation, but it isn't today, and if it was, perhaps I wouldn't be writing here. The way quests are right now is the direct encouragement to use only one party. quack! How is it fun? If you like to experiment, right now you have to complete the same adventure twice: once for loot, once for XP, for every new party. Inasmuch as it's quite boring, people (at least I) use an old party that doesn't require leveling to complete quests. It urges you not to experiment with deck builds. It even more urges you not to experiment with races. Apparently the developers want their players to be torn between {loot and challenge} and {playing new decks} (it's kinda psycologically uncomfortable). But quests give the players loot FOR challenge and not for not playing new decks. So I've read the links you listed very carefully, but still haven't found an answer to why it couldn't be combined. And if quests aren't supposed to give XP, and XP have little meaning after beating the game and hamper to experiment, then: Why the developers haven't put a tavern, that players get after finishing the whole game, where the players could hire characters of eighteenth levels? ... Since we have the 10th-level-tavern, why not the 18th-level-one? That's my suggestion. P.S. The fact that this topic consistently and stubbornly emerges with the help of newcomers shows that there is certain imperfection here. And more new similar threads will be posted as long as the topic is neglected. P.S.S. It would be also great to have more adventures for the 18th level parties, in order not to think about levelling at all and experiment with high level decks.
There are quest/challenges that require all wizards, all warriors, even one that say all elf wizards (a high level one too). I didn't bother checking them all to see how many different parties you have to re-level. I'm not going to jump through all these hoops after beating the game. Not to mention having to change equipment every adventure. Too tedious. Too much work just to get to the fun part. Maybe using a global level instead of individual character levels since you get level restricted on maps anyways. Either that or charge a small fee to change class/race. Thank god multiplayer doesn't have this issue... Quests are a good idea that adds replay value to the maps. Too bad it's so very poorly implemented. I'm not touching them at this rate even though it looks like a lot of fun.
I've been enjoying the quests myself. It may just be the sort of thing that appeals to only some players (they are sort of like achievements). I think many will be drawn to them simply for the chance at getting some good items. I've also enjoyed leveling up other parties (I find it's pretty fast/easy to get parties to around level 10 by beating higher level adventures) simply as a way to see how different party makeups impact the game. Since quests can only be beaten once. I fail to see why they can't also give exp, it doesn't appear to cause a balance issue. You've already beaten the campaign, and level doesn't matter for MP. It's not a big deal to me, but it's one of those little confusing parts of the game and I don't see why it's needed. Giving up exp for better loot is an interesting way to look at it. I saw it as getting better loot (one time) for beating the level on a higher difficulty.
