So I was under the assumption that Gold Chests (those given at the end of adventures) were guaranteed rare or better drops. I was also under the assumption that Card Hunter Club rewards are minimum the guaranteed rarity. If I'm mistaken on either of these points, there is no bug. The bug happened for me at the end of the Adventure 'The Jewel of Alet Zhav'. After finishing the final quest, I got a chest with some rares inside, but the Card Hunter Club item was uncommon only!
That means the gold chests give one guaranteed uncommon item(or better). Making the club only reward give from uncommon higher. In other words, the club reward does not give you whatever best quality you had in the chest.(if you by chance have gotten a legendary, the club reward isn't guaranteed legendary, unless there's a guaranteed legendary in the chest to begin with) This is the RNG loving you, and not loving the club reward.
