Hello everyone I play PnP for only 3 Years now, but theres one thing that struck me instantly: The dice. All gamers are very, very fond of their dice. So I ask you some questions: How important are your dice to you? Do you hord them? Which is your favorite dice and why? For me, my dice are collectables. I have a metric flipton (not counting the cubicmetre of d6 für SR and Warhammer) of dice, everyone with its own story and an epic win/fail story attached to it. And as soon as I come home I'll post a pic of my favorite dice, which helped my Vampires survive for all my gamer-years now.
My favourite is the big steel d20 I won in the first ever Card Hunter tournament. What I like most about it is that it gives me another reason to mention that I won the first ever Card Hunter tournament.
A tournament I cannot participate in is rigged from the start And I like d10 dice the most and have a metric ton of them though each dont have their own stories they are stored in a cathulu bag which gives them awesome power for a price .....
I used to have a set of dice custom painted for each warhammer 40k race necrons and back where the 1 was a incredibly detailed face from the race painted on. I loved them immensely as a friend of mine who passed was the one who painted them and he was both a impressive artist and a good friend. Sadly they got stolen together with my bag one day when i was busy with something meaningless at a GW store.
My dice are like friends to me. Friends I can talk with, friends I can threaten and friends that I torture, if they don't do what I want. It's often quite some fun at the table, when I talk to my dice "c'mon, why did you let me down like this? Do you really want to visit the microwave that soon?"
Sadly, I never grew attached to my D&D dice. My friends and I just couldn't find too many opportunities to all get together and game out. The spans of time were so long that I had to buy a new set (or several if I was DMing) for every occasion. However, I came to become quite fond of the D20 that came in the Kamigawa MTG box set that I used to keep track of my life. (I couldn't use it for D&D because the numbers are ordered.)
My dice live in fear of me. They've seen what happens when others didn't behave. On the other hand, I cherish those that perform up to snuff. I'm a benevolent dictator.
Ive seen a big steel dice rolled on a table. The table broke. Those things make me cringe every time i see them and it hurts my ears to have them be rolled.
I still miss my old plastic D&D Red Box dice. Somehow the green d20 worn in just the right way to have it always do well. I've lost more dice than I've owned, unfortunately, but somehow I still have all the original red gem d6s I got in my first copy of Risk!
I have a decent size collection. Mainly because for every character I hand pick a new set that reflects the new character's personality. It can be plain old black dice with red #'s for a necromancer type or aqua with gold #'s for my elven rogue.
I'd be more fond of my dice if they treated me better. My fudge dice are currently living in the drawer-of-cursed-dice for their insistence on coming up "-" on most rolls. That last planet I rolled up for a Diaspora game didn't need an atmosphere, resources, or any post-bronze-age technology, right?
my dice are all mismatched and some have tape on them to make them into "other dice" because i have so many,my cousin gave them to me,it was just lying around,i treasure them more then a perfect set of dice they hold symbolism I've played with them forever there a part of me now sure they may give me horrid roles, but there are the times when your down for the count 1 hp left your shaking and full of fear, and that perfect roll comes in that saves your life, you tend to remember that stuff
Ah the original D&D dice I remember those! Still I have to say I have hoarded every D6 out of a box of axis and allies. Great fireball/character creation dice.... Because they roll insanely high all the time!!!!
