Anyone else finding the 3rd encounter in the Garnet Demon Portal adventure impossible to get by? I have a variety of 11th level characters that I have tried in different combinations with different equipment and strategies to no avail.

The problem is between the imps long-distance attacks and their ability to cut your own movement with freeze attacks it is impossible to get near them long enough to strike effective blows and a group of wizards doesn't have the fortitude to survive the sheer # of imps to do much better despite their own long-distance attacks.

Who has defeated this level? Tips? This is by far the hardest thing so far for me and the level of frustration is getting to chip away at the fun.

Same feeling i had when i encountered this barely managed to get a win the first time by sticking my guys in cower and peaking out shortly to burst before returning in behind the wall where my priest was spamming heals and dispels. This encounter could really do with one less frost and arcane imp.

Use the wall ends as cover and make sure your fighter has fast move cards in his deck (Dash, Sprint, Wild Run...) as those often allow you to catch up with the imps even when slowed. If you can take out two of the frost imps, the rest is much easier.

For me the third fight was not that bad, especially compared to the fifth one...

I can't even get to the cover without someone dying. . .

Yeah, stand directly behind the ends of the walls on each side of the map. Significantly cuts down the number that can hit you. Wait it out until someone moves into range. Armor and magic Blocks help significantly. If you have them, use Step cards on your warrior(s), as they ignore the Encumber effect. Vicious Thrust, if you can find a copy or four for your deck, works wonders for closing the distance.

Setting up ambushes can be effective. Move one character forward up one side of the map and have another behind a wall on the other side. The enemies will all back away from the advancing character; being herded toward your waiting ambush. As soon as they move within a few spaces, jump out and cut them down. They're probably out of Move cards for the round. This doesn't always work, but it's how I usually finish off the last couple annoying enemies.

This is the closest I have come to getting past this encounter. . . and despite the fact that my party is one 12th level wizard and an 11th level warrior and cleric (all elves) and it is supposedly a 10th level adventure - I am still having difficulty (though finally it feels within reach with some luck).

In general, once my characters got around 8th level, I found I needed them to be 1 to 2 level above the adventure level in order to have a chance.

I managed to beat this level on my 2nd try, level 10/11. It's not very simple, but I wouldn't say impossible - the map after this is a lot worse tbh. I would suggest getting your party together in one of the side passages and have them come to you - kill of frosties first as they slow you down. Also, if you have any resistant hides for your mage - make sure to bring it.

And on my next try, I did it. . . finally.

And I did the map after this on the first try with no deaths. . . Was a lot easier

Yeah, you're right. Rechecking my notes - map 3 was hardest, map 5 was a bit tough as well. Then again, luck may vary with loadout - as we all know.

excessive use of impenetrable nimbus and firestorm saw me through the day, although it was a close hp race. Resistant hide is your friend.

Uh, most people won't have impenetrable nimbus at that level peasant. At least I don't (and I'm at lvl 12). Not sure that's good advice based on that, but yes - having access to it wouldn't hurt!

I haven't even HEARD of Impenetrable Nimbus!

Current impossible map is the 2nd one in the Goblin Wood - Spider-Webs. Level 11 adventure. All my dudes are 12th - I have gotten close, but no success yet despite having tried it probably nearly 2 dozen times.

I completed it on my first try, but yeah - those shredders are nasty. Do you have access to any walls? Stone ot Fire? Try to wall some of them out while you handle smaller amounts of them, up at the top of the map. That can help, also since Shredders have so much missile blocks - unless you have a dwarven battle cry, have mage kill spiders so he doesnt waste his spells.

i suppose i was lucky then, i had three different cleric items that gave 1-2 nimbus and a staff of firestorm >.>

Yeah, that sounds a bit lucky tbh - but hey, luck is part of the game. ;)

Heh, I've a level 18 party, a level 12 party, and a level 10 party, and still not a single Impenetrable Nimbus card in sight. So no, I don't think relying on those is the most practical idea. :p

Wish I could reassure you that second Goblins in the Woods map was beatable with X strategy, OOO, but it took me about 7 tries to get through and the one time I did beat it was the biggest luck-fest I've ever had. Avoided that whole adventure with my #2 party, just to steer clear of that one particular map. I can say, after you beat it, the remaining battles in the adventure are *far* easier.

i suppose if i didn't have nimbus i would rely upon mass heals from the cleric and resistant hide on my wizard as he would throw down fire walls at the end of the round.

The pile on attacks do way too much damage to heal through and the zombies tend to be immune to fire just saying
