I feel like the name would be better suited to something with 2 or 3 Hide Strips, which could be an interesting submission.

  4. Every entry that has even a chance at being useful, especially in ranked, is extremely unlikely to win. If you want to win you should be purposefully designing items that will not be used.

Smoke On The Water made it in, and that has some use. Shouldn't we be trying to make cool stuff instead of trying to win by getting a terrible item into the game?

Considered trying to make Misguided Heal useful, but man, it's hard...
Maybe Misguided Heal X2 and Savage Curse, Divine Item, call it Jungle Medicine?

'viability' of the outcome was encouraged. I guess the tricky part is the "not too strong" condition. I think it can't hurt to think of the campaign and the progressive access to items - highest hope you can have for an AA winner is to design an item that is useful to a fresher player for a while, at least til some of the "too strong" comes around.

I wanted to put hide strips on it to begin with, but putting anything other than a black card in the ill-fitting armor slot resulted in a level 21+ item, and I wanted enchanted and dynamic armor on it for the theme, which was a piece of armor for a succubus, IE enchanted, fitted for someone incredibly lithe with wings/horns (not your typical adventurer, thus ill-fitting) but still easy to move around in because it's not too bulky (dynamic armor).

Judging from Timeracer's feedback however, doesn't seem like it worked out all that well.

  9. Succubi draw out life force from their victims so I feel like it has to be a divine armor with a drain attack or 2. Actually best would be 1 armor, 1 drain attack, 1 something with demon in the name. In the spirit of keeping AA submissions laughably weak in order to have a chance at winning, try something like Draining Touch, Toughened Hide Strips, Demonic Revenge.

Timeracer's written feedback tends to be on the blunt side. I don't know that it would compete well with other major token armors in the game, but that doesn't mean Flax won't select it.

  11. Timeracers only likes powerful items. Flax only selects weak items. Ergo, if Timeracers likes your item, you are doomed.

Perhaps the game needs an item with both Enchanted Mail and Enchanted Harness?

Would a heavy armor with 2 Enchanted Mails and a drawback be too powerful? I know Flax has a track record of picking weak items, but this AA's guidelines say "Push it to viability".

I believe the item isn't well themed or fun either.

Are we just trying to make a themed item? At least trade the Draining Touch for an Invigorating Touch. With this the item's level is 2.

Okay, but theme and fun are both pretty subjective.
Not sure. IMO, Enchanted Mail is overcosted quality-wise, so 2 and a drawback might work. It would still cost a major token, and I suspect many players would opt for Cushioning, Mimetic, or a Force Field combo instead. Nailing a theme and coining a catchy name helps a lot. I think keeping the rarity down helps as well.
(I know I submitted an epic this month, but it's too strong to have a chance of winning. I'm like my actual design, as long as it doesn't win.)

That's probably over powered, like gold token epic. Have epics (or legendary) ever been chosen for AA ?

Also I don't mind if an item isn't useful in ranked ... I do Loot Fairy twice a day and like having good campaign items to speed things along.

    Yes. On a 3-card item, 1 rare = Rare, 2 rares = Epic, 3 rares = Legendary.
Enchanted Mail is common, and Enchanted Harness is rare, so it could either be Rare or Epic depending upon the rarity of the third card.

Of course, I posted that little blip two pages ago just to be funny. That's so OP as to be comical. Not saying a little Acid or Sundering can't take care of it, but, y'know, until then...

(On the other hand, in that same post two pages ago, I asked serious questions I'd hoped people might consider and brainstorm on a little...)

Oh, and to jdotri and your question, yes. Two examples: Tasty, Tasty Staff (legendary, essentially chosen along with five others for that contest,) and Hu La Houp's Vicious Circle (supposed to be epic, but accidentally entered as legendary where it shall remain for the foreseeable future).
