I have been playing a little with the board editor, so I though I might as well post my work here. Any constructive remarks are welcome. First come a few (unnamed) arenas: Edit: I have made a few changes on arenas 1 and 2. The alt versions are the updated ones. I just realized the 3rd map was not meant to have impassable terrain all along the river, but difficult terrain around the tree. It should be fixed Edit 2: I remade Arena1 with AI design Spoiler: Arena1b
Some solid maps, but if you want to post them then #1 is a bit too big, #2 favours dorfs too much and #3 is a bit too open and provides a lot of space for teh mages to station themselves and spew out fireballs.
These all seem pretty cool! Maybe one or two bridges on the 3rd map would make crossing it a bit easier & better.
Here come a couple of Corrida maps. I would be surprised if no one had thought about making some. The Corrida Urgle was a trog. Just a trog. But he wanted to be more! He wanted to be a Champion! So he went to the city, during the Grimmish Festival, where even the ugliest monsters can participate in the festivities. There he found what he was looking for: the Arena. "I am sorry, but we do not have any bulls left" he was told when he asked to participate in the Corrida. "But if you want, you can be facing the creature that ate them" Urgle did not think long before accepting. Spoiler: Victory text The crowd roared as Urgle gave the final blow to the beast. "That was a formidable duel! All hail our winner, Urgle the Trog!" "Now Sir Urgle, I am asking you, will you make us the honor of participating in the Grimmish Tournament, that will be held here for the next few days? (We really would appreciate. Since the Corrida is busted, we'll need all the capable warriors we can find)" The crowd felt silent, waiting for his answer. He nodded. The crowd cheered. Urgle won many fights that year. To be continued (It is harder than I thought to write a scenario)
The Black Beast It has been a year since Urgle won his first battle in the arena, and he is now a renowned warrior. He has been invited to this year's Festival as a special guest. "We have found a sibling of the creature you fought last year, but this one is darker, so we called it The Black Beast. We would be honored if you could fight it as an opening to the festivities. You'll see we have rearranged the arena and hired some clowns to distract the beast, all for entertainment's sake of course." Spoiler: Victory text The crowd fell silent as the Black Beast stompped Urgle to death, and then ate him whole. The fight was over. Many tried to do better than Urgle in the arena. The Black Beast ate a lot of fools this year. Edit: I remove the noMinionKillPoints tag, so now you have to kill everything
I have tried making an arena map with team-assigned victory squares. (Your victory square is on the other side)
Ambushed You were returning from the neighbouring town where you had some business. You were having a short nap when something went wrong. You heard a thump, the cart stopped, the horses neighted and galloped away. Those ***** you hired for an escort led you straight into a goblin's ambush! You grab what valuable things you can and try to make your way to the nearest village. Those mercenaries could still be of some use, to cover your back and gain enough time for your escape. Time to run for you life. Spoiler: Victory text After a while you no longer hear the battle behind you. You safely reach the village, where you sell part of what you saved from the ambush, and hire a passing group of mercenaries. You hope they will prove less incompetent. You resume your journey, hoping none of your former escort survived. They might want to ask payment for "saving you" from the goblin ambush they threw you into, and you really don't want to see any of them again. I wish only the lord could count for the victory squares. Any clue about how I could do that?
Nope, but I am planning to make a thread (later on today) about the game tags and what tags we want to have (we as in players) so that @Jon or @Flaxative see it any maybe try adding the tags.
The Astral Maze As a Guardian of Shadow, you have been assigned to the defense of the Astral Shrine. You have designed a clever system that would allow to ward off intruders with little need for armed intervention. An ever changing maze, that would send any trepasser back the way they came. But your superiors want you to disassemble it, as you do cannot fully control it yet. You claim you can fix this. But you will not have enough time. The Royals are arriving. You turn off the mind puzzling device, and regretfully go into the maze to destroy the mechanical harmonizers. Spoiler: Victory text With the harmonizers down you are able to quickly dismantle what is left of your ingenious mechanism, and have the room cleared before the Royals come in. You sometimes wish you had a place of your own, where no one would ask you to destroy your work, but that would probably involve leaving the Cult. Yet, you ponder the idea...
This is a top tier scenario. Totally sweet work. (I also tried the two trog vs. rumbler maps - the first one, where you control the trog, seems really dependent on drawing crude plates early and keeping it [no rad burst, no dropped guard]; the second seems really really easy.)
RumbleBot 1 Rumbler. 2 Security Bots. No scenario. No fancy board. RumbleBot! I guess I am turning lazy...
Ok, here comes my Monkey Campaign. Be ready to play War Monkeys a LOT. Spoiler: Monkeys Escape It must have been ages since you have woken up in this cage. Hard to tell in this place where the sun never brings its light. You can hear your siblings nearby, but you cannot see them. According to the sounds you hear, they must be in cages, just like you, and just like those green skins in front of you. Some edible goo drips from a hole in the ceiling when you push a button on the wall. It also seems to hurt the green skins, probably the same way it hurts you when they push their buttons. More than once you fought, using this strange phenomenon, yet no winner has been established yet. Suddently, everything goes dark in the room and your cages unlock. You would run for the exit, but first you will have to make the green skins pay for their gluttony. Spoiler: Victory text Once things are calmed down, you take some time to rest. This place looks quite big, and you do not know how far you can be from your home. Best gather your strength before starting exploration. After such a long time with only that goo to eat, the green skins taste delicious. Spoiler: Monkeys Rescue You start exploring this place. You cannot tell exactly where the light comes from in these metal-cold tunnels. You proceed carefully, glimpsing many stange rooms as you try to find an exit. You recognize a sound. Others of your kind are somewhere around, screaming. You rush forward and find them in a room, caged, and three tall creatures turn to face you. Are the locals made of metal too? Spoiler: Victory text You manage to break the cages open and free the prisonners. Aside from their fancy hats, they look like decent fellows. One noteworthy detail though, when leaving the room, those who were in the right cage panicked when they saw the sprouts in a corner of the room, and cautiously stayed away from them. The other group seems unaffected. What possible torture could they have suffered as to make them afraid of plants? Spoiler: Monkeys Sneak The path you are exploring leads you to a larger corridor. On one side, it quickly ends with a dark red wall that looks dangerous to the touch. You will have to go the other way. Be careful though, whether this leads to the exit or deeper into this maze, the masters of this place are bound to have set sentries along the way. Spoiler: Victory text No more sentries this way, so this is not the way out. But since you do not know how to cross the red wall, you will have to learn more about this place before you can leave. Spoiler: Monkeys Fight Champions You come upon a biped creature walking in the main corridor. When he sees you, he immediately turns around and run. Maybe you can learn a few things from him. After him! At some point, he stops running and manipulates something on the wall. A red barrier, just like the other one, appears between you and him. You do not have time to focus on this, as two side doors open, and two enormous monsters come you way. Spoiler: Victory text If you could read the writing above the doors, you would have learned that these monsters were the ferocious twins, Grendel and Grendel (they have been given the same name so you would not anger them by mistaking one for the other). They were raised to be great warriors, but a genetic trait made them extremely territorial, and they would never go far from their rooms. Spoiler: Monkeys Final Battle After you open a panel on the wall and breaks a few things in it, the red barrier eventually vanishes. This is a dead end. The masters of this place are trapped! They grab their weapons and their pets start growling at you. Spoiler: Victory text The pets are dead. The masters surrendered. You have now to make them tell you everything they know. You will learn the secrets of this place. You will learn what every device does. You will even learn how to decipher the writing of these people. You will learn that you are now very far from home, in a ship that goes thousands of miles per second across empty space, and that there is little hope for you to come back. You will be living here from now on. But you will adapt, as you always have. And soon enough, you will be the first SPACE MONKEYS ever!
Now that I have finally written the scenarios for my monkey campaign (took me 2 weeks, I'm no good at this), I can go back to posting more maps. Here come a few more arena boards (no scenario to write, yay!) Spoiler: Arena4 Spoiler: Arena5 I was just trying to make a very small arena map. Not really balanced Spoiler: Arena6, The Fool's Trap
Cool designs! I like the shapes you've chosen in 4 and 6 too. 5 is definitely favoring warriors very heavily - without much room to maneuver, there isn't a whole lot wizards can do to avoid them. 6 especially seems like it would make for interesting gameplay - very wizard-centric, as telekinesis becomes an amazing power spell.
Bug Busters Ok guys, our intel told us a queen went through this house. Scans indicate she laid four eggs. The bad news is they started hatching. So let's not waste more time, let's go in and clean up this mess! Spoiler: Victory text If there's something gross In you neighborhood Who you gonna call Bug Busters Well, they are also gross, and they will wreck your house, but it's still better than burning it down or feeding the pests.
Muncher Run I am now in one of the most remote places of Cardhuntria. For this is where takes place one of the most spectacular shows nature can offer. Few are those who have ever witnessed it. It is at this time of the year, that the Thought Munchers swim up this very river to lay their eggs, and thus complete their cycle of life. Several large predators have already gathered for the event. As for me, I found a tree that will make a decent hiding place as well as a nice observation spot. Few Munchers have made it this far up, and even fewer will reach their final destination. Spoiler: Victory text Uh? What am I doing in this tree? Where am I? WHO am I? What the hell is going on here?!? Edit: new victory text to replace the old one. Spoiler: New ending Huh? Not again! Every year I feel so exited about finally watching a Muncher Run, and every time I end up staring mindlessly at some boring sharkbears instead. How could I forget? Next year, I WILL see a Muncher Run. I'll start packing gear right away.
I've been making a few more arenas. (Don't pay attention to the characters, you should use your own MP party.) Arena 10
