Has broadening the PVP format with regard to power token brackets ever been discussed? Now that it looks like you can reach level 24, it might be cool to see how the PVP maps play under different token restrictions. You could set up something like Level 4 (no token matches) Level 14 (8 blue but no yellow) Level 18 (obv, obv) Level 24 (new max) It's likely that maps would offer longer fun played under different restrictions with diff gear availability. The 2 obvious problems with this are 1) fulfilling the matchmaking if there are too many brackets. 2) how do these matches work with ranking. The answer to 2 is simple, I think, in that all brackets would affect ranking exactly the same. There's no more or less glory for fighting someone on equal footing regardless of level. The answer to 1 is far more tricky and depends on population and bracket popularity. The fact that maps are served randomly means people won't be piling up to play map X with X gear, but it could mean that people who dislike things like impenetrable nimbus might pile up in the level 4 bracket. Maybe there's not enough PVP population to make this work, but with bots for each level it could still be something to consider and it would help the game scale and provide diversity to PVP. peace out.
I love the idea, but I think you'd need to just about quadruple the current player base before "problem 1" is no longer an issue. One other thing that would be a hangup, how do you help new players to realize that unlike the campaign Level 4 is not considerably easier than Level 24? In fact a tokenless bracket would almost assuredly be dominated by those with lots of tokenless legendaries, that is to say, it would be extremely competitive.
It has been suggested, and I believe it's worth bringing up again. As Scarponi said, tokenless would tend to be dominated by players with lots of tokenless legendaries. It might require another arena, or possibly just use the League arena when a league isn't in progress. Until it is tried, it would be hard to judge the popularity. If people like it enough to play more often, it should work with the current player base size.
These are token ideas, Getorix! But yeah, I would be totally down for a tokenless league, though I wonder how much of a hassle it would be to implement it.
I think different leveled tournaments would be something worth considering, but putting in different leagues like this would probably only divide the PvP community overall. Even if the player base was four times what it was right now, there would probably have to be a reward incentive to go into the higher levels.
It would also be possible to rotate PvP rules, alongside maps. Say, one month is "level 14" month... etc etc. Obviously would need to pick a set of rules that aren't completely skewed towards certain items, as no-token would be.
Would the levels (HP, slots) be adjusted, or just the allowed tokens? In PvE, HP and tokens are, but slots aren't. In PVP it might be just the tokens. Dunno. Probably whatever is easiest for the devs. If Peasant Mode is on their wish list, I suspect adjusting the tokens would fall right into line with item-based restrictions. Otherwise, the SP method might be applied. It isn't something I expect to see in the near future. As to dividing the community, I see two major divisions. The first, and most obvious, is between PvE and PvP. The larger, and less obvious, is between those who stayed and those who didn't. Every community is composed of individuals who act as individuals. In an online community where migration is effortless, having a larger range of enjoyable activities strikes me as a good method for retention and growth. Having rotating "Token Leveled" ranked play between leagues seems a good way to test it's viability. If not that (or in addition), I'd like to see arenas of varied level on the SP side which use the current MP maps and the appropriate AI for the level.
I think this is the kind of thing we'd try out with leagues. What's missing right now is a way of specifying different party restrictions for a specific league.
Maybe we should add a custom keep to allow custom restrictions like changing the level of your characters, if you enter a league you may need to use your custom party instead of the regular mp party. If you want to play casual then you can also use the custom party. While were at it, we could includes item rarity restrictions*. *maybe add a min and max option for each rarity which can apply to the party or to each character in it. So for peasant you would have a 0 max for rares, epics, and legends, but for aristcrats the max for common, uncommon, rare would be 0 but epics it is 1(for the class skills).
This sounds fun but you really want to avoid splintering the players too much. I think this would work great for leagues, though.
