I'm laughing because as with every good suggestion it's not a matter of if we "want" to put in time, but if we can.
If you're going to laugh every time I use poor phrasing, I might have to start charging you a Comedian's fee :X Well, one thing is for sure, these forums don't typically lack for compelling ideas. And you all will get around to each and every one, eventually- right? xoxo
I'm completely in favor of having the LF move at reset, even though I'm one of the people who benefits from the current system. Since they increased the save slots to 24, I've missed only a few of the possible Loot Fairies.
The only thing I had in mind was that if the Fairy happens to reset shortly before a player's free-time starts, then that player won't be able to take advantage of the Loot Fairy tracker. If the reset time is fixed so that that happens every day, then that player won't be able to get as much loot from the Loot Fairy. Conversely, if a different player happens to enjoy taking part in the semi-organised hunt for the fairy, they might miss out on that if the fairy reset time is fixed. Perhaps that stuff isn't a big deal; but I do like that the timing of the fairy and tournaments shifts from day-to-day.
The missing out on being able to hunt for the fairy is a valid point, and one I'd thought of myself, but dismissed as being secondary to the overall benefits of the switch. As far as the lack of participation in LF, I think your perceptions may be off. 24 hours in a day: To a typical westerner, 8 for sleep, 8 for work, leaving 8 free. Assuming those 8 hours are in the least advantageous spot, they'd be immediately following the reset. That nevertheless leaves 8 hours for the Loot Fairy to be found. Sure, some days they may get unlucky, with the Fairy masterfully hiding themself, but it's unlikely to be near as pronounced or regular as you're indicating. Again, a fair number of people are notably negatively affected by the current system- Be it because most players simply can't get two runs in a day, and are thus 'getting less than other players'; Be it because the unreliability of the system sometimes means no runs can be gotten in on a day, due to scheduling conflicts; Be it because it strongly negatively affects any player who doesn't have free time in the hours prior to reset; And of course, that players are heavily discouraged from farming modules- that is to say, actually playing the game- due to needing to wait on the fairy. In comparison, a small subset of players OCCASIONALLY getting shafted seems a lot less of a problem than: A subset of players getting an disproportionate advantage. A small subset getting stressed and shafted on a regular basis. A small subset getting shafted on a semi-regular basis. People who want to put more time in the game getting aggravated and not wanting to bother. If I'm missing something, by all means, elaborate, but, specific solutions aside, it does at least seem pretty certain that the current system isn't a favorable one.
Assuming you teleport to work and back? And eat while teleporting, shop, do some other stuff (kids?) ..
Looty being on a 25-hour clock is very good because it allows people from all over the world to participate in the hunt. It also keeps the regular hunters / Looty Patrol members from burning out. If Looty moved at the same hour every day, it would be the same people day in day out who would hunt it and some others could never participate as Looty would always be already found by the time they were able to play. It's a good thing that Looty does not move at the same time the adventures reset and that the time changes every day. Card Hunter is a global game. It's OK if some people miss out sometimes because of the changing times. If they weren't changing, it would be the same people who would miss out every day and that would be very unfair. It's not necessary for everyone to get it every day but it is necessary that everyone has an equal chance. The current system should not be changed.
It's not my fault science hasn't caught up to necessity. Okay, fair point :X I get the feeling you missed the point of my posts :X You've made enough of a case to not switch, though that doesn't mean the current system isn't terribly flawed. Well, the most critical point is the inability to run modules as freely as desired, and that can be solved in different ways- The easiest resolution is that the fairy could NOT take module exhaustion into effect, instead having its own internal toggle. Flaxy, thoughts?
I'm going to leave this one up to @Jon and @Farbs. They have a better idea of the kind of work required for any particular change in this particular system.
You raised some good points, sorry about not responding to them. I'm sure there's room for improvements which would lessen the effects you describe. I piped in just to point out the good sides to the current system, but it doesn't mean it's completely perfect as is by any means.
The best thing would be if the Fairy would also trigger on replayed adventures, which would give players a lot more freedom to play when they want without the fear that they would miss it.
What I've gotten out of this discussion is that the loot fairy and adventure/shop resets should occur at the same time, but the adventure/shop reset should also probably be on a 25-hour clock. I think this addresses most of the concerns raised so far, but it's probably also worth noting that a 23-hour clock would likely be even better because it ensures that someone who logs on at the same time every day would always find fresh shops and adventures when they do.
I was going to suggest this myself. You would need add an in-game clock to tell people when the next reset will be.
I like the stability of my adventures reseting at the same time everyday personally. I don't mind the randomness of the LF because I play what I enjoy. Which means if I want to play SP and the LF hasn't moved yet I'll just play anyway. I always figure I'll get more loot playing when I want to as much as I'd like rather than sitting and waiting for the LF. If I'm really in a LF mood, I can always play MMs. But adventure resets are something that are nice to have happen regularly.
I suggest that when the loot fairy moves to a module that that module gets unexhausted. Yes, this will tell where the loot fairy is, but that is hardly a benefit if you are going to know anyways after some time.
If Loot Fairy would reset at the same time as maps, we would lose "double dip" .. that's .. a strong argument not to do that imho .. [edit] But on the other side - I did caught myself not playing waiting for Loot Fairy / Bandit reset..
