Sparkling cloth moving 2 after Chilling Rime?

Was watching a game earlier SirSrsly vs Krystalis1 and couldn't help but notice that when Chilling Rime was applied to a character with sparkling cloth, this could move 2 steps rather than 1 due to encumber. Is this intended, shouldn't encumber apply with damage and thus before sparkling cloth allows a 2 move?

The damage happens before the attachment, so Sparkling Cloth triggers before the character becomes encumbered.

Oh I see the reasoning, I thought the effect was supposed to be concurrent rather than consecutive! Thanks for clarification!

It's a game that is executed by a computer, everything has to be consecutive. One card can cause many things to happen, but the game has to resolve each thing in an order. The FAQ & Glossary has an entry that will give you the entire order of events for an attack which usually is where the most things can be triggered by the playing of a single card.

Ok, we read the 'Anatomy of an Attack' but that doesn't mean we agree with the way that code was implemented. Because if the cards don't do exactly as it's written (like in Magic the Gathering) it will frustrate new players expectations. Maybe Blue Manchu doesn't want to rewrite some code parts, and we have to accept it as it is, but when most players see it as a bug devs should think about if the results are counter-intuitive.

Lol. MtG has comprehensive rules 500x as long as Scarponi's FAQ & Glossary, and tons of interactions in that game don't make sense unless you know the ins and outs of the computer-logic-like comprehensive rules.

Code aside, making damage and encumber apply before moving from sparkling cloth armor or surging block is allowed would be a mild buff to encumber and cold magic. We should welcome any mild buff to encumber we can get.

But unlike Sparkling Cloth, Surging Block blocks the attack if you're moving, so there's no encumber...

true, i was just cataloging similar effects in my mind, and surging was the only one coming to mind. So i guess its just sparkling then. Still, should justifiy recoding the game from scratch, right?
