[Suggestion] Reset Ranked Standing

I think the whole top 10 is retired. It seems that sometimes they creep out to play leagues but they don´t play ranked games anymore. So why should they be listed as the best?
If i look at the Ranked Standing, i would like to see who is good atm and not who had one or more Vibrant Pain and joy using Whirlwind.

There should have been a reset with the rebalance patch.

 

I agree that ratings should decay/get reset somehow/sometimes or at least inactive players should be hidden from the table.

 

From what I heard, they were looking into hiding inactive people (those who don't play for X weeks). No idea what became of that.

 

Or maybe lose points if the user do not play a ranked match in the whole day?

The problem with losing rating is that no rating points can come into the system without very new ranked players. So the whole rating ganing/losing system would have to be redone if rating could decay.

 

Well there'd have to be some type of decay cap too, you don't want a 1600 not playing for 3 months, then getting back in the game and being able to start with their full collection ranked at 800.

 

Everyone above 1400 gets reduced to 1400, below 800 gets to 800 and everything between gets a rating of 1100.
A simple solution which gets repeated after every major rebalance.

 

Option 1: Everyone gets reduced to zero anytime any card is changed. This will let anyone play anyone else for a few days. It isn't every day a duffer gets to play against a CH legend.
Option 2: Everyone keeps the ratings they've earned. Rating inflation will eventually get retired champs out of the top slots.
Option 3: Pick one of the 'Rating Decay' systems from the forums archives, and run with it. Better yet, pick 7 of them and rotate them randomly. Familiarity may breed contempt, but uncertainty can breed it faster if you work it properly.
Option 4: Never take anything I write in one of these threads seriously.

 

I'll take Option 5: Do nothing until the next expansion and then maybe reset everyone's standings to 0.

I don't think that anyone, including myself has "earned" their rank anymore, or at least not recently, and I'd like the chance to climb back up to the top.

 

So for the next six months or more the current pointless ranking should stay?

The players who actually play regulary do deserve their rank and so would you if you would just play three games per day.

 

Actually turin is the only one on the 1st page who really hasn't played for ages. About 8 months perhaps? All other should be worth their rating ± 100 points.

 

I suppose it depends on what you consider "inactive players." The top 20 on average haven't played in approximately 11 weeks (median time is 6 weeks), and this is assuming the minimum 43 weeks idle for the 2 players in the top 20 who haven't even played a game since Farb's meta site went live at the beginning of the year. Some of these players aren't gone for good necessarily (especially since I see some of them playing leagues), but I think over a month without play is enough to consider them inactive in ranked play.

 

Why do deleted accounts appear in the leaderboard?

Decay sounds like a solid incentive not to rest on withering laurels.

 

I finally reached the 2nd place on the global ranking list with 1772 ELO points.
The average of the "Time from the Last MP Battle" of all the 1700 players is like 7 weeks.
And a lot of >1650 are inactive too.

So what's the point to reach high ranked positions if I have to play 30 games with 1500+ players to get on top?
When, if I lose a single match, my rank will decrease drastically!

 

I agree that the ranking system currently is bunk. It's part of the reason I don't bother playing ranked.

 

I also agree that ranking system discourages playing .. When I reached 1600+ I caught myself avoid playing .. as If you get paired with lover ELO player, you can also lose, and you'll lose a lot of ELO points that way..
And I wanted to test some new builds of mine which was quite risky ..

ELO should not discourage playing .. should not discourage testing of new builds (that much) ..
That should definitely be redesigned .. and real top players (not those who had multiple VPs once upon a time) will climb up anyway..

Take Tennis for example .. who doesn't play gets down the ladder .. and who is low on ELO and good player, will climb up the tops anyway..

 

And this should be adressed before CH is available through Kongregate because first impressions matter.
