The Trogs are really tough. Particularly as an early enemy, it can be quite frustrating that they can just continually move out of range and spear you to death. I think it's good that the game has some challenge to it, but it seems like they might be better suited as level 5+ enemies when you have some more tactical options. That early in the game, your gear is pretty limited, and it makes for an unfortunate difficulty spike.
That scenario is a pain for some people, me included. It took several tries to beat it, I went off and did 'higher level' areas then came back with better gear, more HP etc.
Well, I don't have any ranged attacks OR armor discarding cards. So yeah, I guess I should just go elsewhere and give up -- I've failed about 7 times in a row now between the two battles in it.
You almost had it. Seriously, I probably failed about nine or ten times on that module before I caught a break where the AI didn't run away as soon as I tried to attack. When I came back on Day 2, I ran through the first adventures for a bit more experience and loot and then I didn't really have trouble with the Trogs. I hadn't done any "harder" adventures yet. The best tip I have for beating the Trogs with very new parties is to force them to use all their moves by moving a character who has a poor hand right next to one of them. Gary will try to move that single Trog away, burning up his moves so that later in the round the rest of your party can catch up with them. And you do have armor discarding cards - every Priest starts out with Wavering Faith: check it out.
Ah, is that one of the "no gear" cards? I didn't think to check my lack-of-gear for abilities. I did also get the cursed orb that discard a card. But overall I think it's safe to say the level 3 adventures are far, far easier than that level "2" adventure.
