I have just discovered this game, liked it, as it seemed to use a very fair pricing model and bought a one year club membership.
But now, after having played for some hours, i have to discover that there are adventures on the map that you have to unlock for a good amount of money, just to get access!
And thats the point where it begins to feel like a Pay2Play game.

Additionaly, being able to purchase virtual items through real money is unprofessional and leaves a bad Pay2Win taste...

Dont get me wrong, im more than willing to support worthy games, but in my oppinion, this game takes it too far...

Lolz. This made my day. There are some folks the game is better off without. ^_^

I think this is a case of spending the money on the wrong things... the membership is great, especially early on as it'll help you get more loot more quickly, but if you search the forums you'll see that most people say that the best value is buying the treasure hunts. In fact the Attack of the Artifact treasure hunts can be bought almost entirely with the pizza that Gary gives you if you don't actually spend it where he suggests. Regardless, the whole point of having treasure hunts was to create a revenue source for the company that would not undercut the ability of players to compete in comparison to others. It does not give any significant advantage in PvP whether you have the treasure hunts or not, and it does not prevent you from being able to complete the campaign. It is entirely "side-content" that you can buy if you want more game to play, but it gives no significant advantage. Personally I played the game for over 6 months before I bought them and still got plenty of play almost never feeling disadvantaged. I also am glad I didn't buy them right away, they were a fun thing to sit and anticipate for when I finally got them.

Actually, this is no longer true. Gary gives enough pizza to buy one figure, one treasure hunt, and one magnificent chest; after the changes in the chest prices that now totals 130 pizza instead of the 150 pizza we used to get (and it'll drop to 125 pizza when the economy changes go live).

You don't need treasure hunts and you don't need to trade pizza for gold. It's a totally fine game without either. Although before spending real money in a game, one should always consider all possible options to spend it on :p

lolwhat, you bought a whole freaking year of club membership but you shy away from another 15$ to unlock some of the best content in the game???

    That makes no sense.

    You just made my day.

You should read more careful before commenting.
I didnt write anywhere that i didnt buy the extra content, which i actually did.

What i said was that i am unhappy with the F2P model, nothing else.

Additionaly, this is a feedback topic, and as such, is my personal oppinion and not adressed to players, but to the devs.

I played months and months within the boundaries of free access, and while it is true that you miss out on the treasure hunts, which are to be seen separate and entertaining in their own regard, what you left with is still a great game full of content. Your edge over an non-spender is the slot with extra loot, it will speed up your progress by leaps and bounds and might present you faster with the more advanced options of the game. Its exactly what someone who wants to engage deeper in card hunter should invest in.

You're absolutely entitled to your personal opinion, but if you phrase it like an attack by implying the game is unworthy of support, you should be prepared for some community backlash.

From my personal perspective, the free to play aspect of this game is very well implemented. I played Card Hunter for months without spending a dime and never felt like I was missing out. Once I got really into the game and knew I was hooked, I started spending cash, partially for the new content and more items but also to support the devs. I never felt like the game was trying to take advantage of me.

You can access most of the single player content without spending anything. If you do feel like supporting the devs, it only costs $40 to unlock all of the single player content in the game.

As far as competition goes, this game is hardly pay2win. It is far easier to acquire items by playing rather than paying, and there is nothing a paying player can buy that can't be earned by playing. You can do extremely well in multiplayer without spending any money at all. I hit 1500 multiplayer rating before I spent any money on the game. One of the top ranked players on the ladder, CT5, still hasn't purchased the basic edition.

This game is not pay to win. It's play to win. So play! Don't spend more money if you don't want to. You can still win plenty and thoroughly enjoy Card Hunter.
