So how about we make a list of the best items available? This should give new players a clear-cut list of great and special items to buy. Anything on this list should either be a very strong item or be irreplaceable. Now, if there are any items that are missing, please post so I can add them to the list. I want to try and not include any "questionable" items, if we start getting conversations about whether X item is good or not, that item will be removed from the list for sure. The format: Item type: [*Legendary items] [*Epic] [*Rare] [*Uncommon/Common items] Commas separate items in the list, while / slashes indicate that items are similar within that rarity bracket, and * indicate that different rarity items are similar as well. Suggestion: in addition to putting different rarities on different lines, color the text according to the rarity's color!
Suggestion: Change the forum interface so that I can easily link 200+ items and give them different colours. No really, please, I would really like that. Hmm... I'm working on tweaking the appearance a little bit... but it will take a while.
IMO quite pointless list. It contains too many items not those that are really a MUST buy. Like the ones you should consider paying real money for if they show up. And if you start buying everything from here, then you won't soon have gold for something you really need.
Its nice that you're trying to do something like this, but I sort of agree with Lord Feleran here. . Looking at your list I found plenty of stuff I personally wouldn't consider "must-have" Also on a helpful editing note its Focused Crushing not perfect crushing anyways gl with the rest !
People consider buying different items for different reasons. Me, for example, would never buy Bleneth's Skull whereas many other people would. (and should). And of course no one has enough gold to everything. Maybe you have a particular item in mind and no other item is more important, despite how useful something might be. If you would like to help differentiate the items here into tiers, great. I was thinking about that already, I'll start with the first few skills first and then do some more later. So the first list, is the cream of the cream. Anything good but not "buyable" can go down to the second list. I'm down to Human skills on the OP, so take another look and tell me if anything in the first four categories isn't a "must buy". I'm on the fence about Perfect Stoutness but otherwise all of those items should be solid.
Good work, Jade! My two coppers: All lists of this type will be somewhat subjective, but they make good discussion fodder and can give beginners a better idea of what's available and desirable. MP and SP differences might complicate the list due to the difference in opponents. I think an MP based list with a standard flag for great SP items could work well. Maybe include a line in the heading about the value of items being dependent upon the type of builds played, and the listed items being considered the top of their class.
Always like opinions on items... since I know what cards I like but tendto be dumb about items. My humble suggestion... Break this up in to 3-9 different threads. My recommendation would be warrior items, wiz items, priest items and class free items (Boots, Shields & Racials) It would make for shorter lists that are easier to digest and start discussions. My question is why do you like Illusion? I guess I still dont understand how to play (and to some extent play against) a control strategy.
Illusion allows you to "encumber" your opponents with all of the halt tile attachments, allows you to shark cage yourself against opposing wizards, allows you to overwrite offensive attachments with protective barriers, etc. It's a great toolbox item.
[Skull Of Savage Iljin] - very powerful tokenless item that cannot be replaced by anything else. [Jaguar Buckler] - became a true powerhouse after the change. Disorienting Block is probably the most powerful block now, Surging Shield Block became much better, and the step attacks are still popular, so Pushback Parry is good too. All for a blue token!!!
Both of those items are already on the list, Ector. I'm compiling a finished list, including reasons for each item. *EDIT* I don't have time to explain my choices, this isn't an easy 1-man job.
[Winged Track Shoes] - the only boots with two Flight Auras, which became permanent after the rebalance. Now these boots can be a must-have for an elven assassin backstabbing the opposing wizards, and will be invaluable on the maps with lots of water and similar impassable terrain. Note that the third card, Sprint, is also very good for the assassin warrior, so the boots are well worth the yellow token.
Thanks for the response... I actually have a build now that I can swap mine into. I will miss the Gusts of War from my Whiterune staff, but this might just work especially now that I am running a very offensive fire wiz. Oh and shows you how I dont pay attention sometimes. I forgot these were 5 Illusory Barriers not Wall of Illusions. Duration 3 is A LOT more powerful than a D1 wall. Now if I could only find a better items with Gusts of War.
Cinnabar Ring Glowing Jewel Ring Of Appropriation Phantom Cape Whiterune Staff Yoloxl's Staff Are any of these items must-haves? Or secondary usefulness? Can someone suggest any common staffs or arcane items? Or anything else missing from the list(s)? PS: Robe Of Useful Things has become one of my favorite items post-balance.
I don't know if commons should be on this list. They are cheap enough that you don't really need to be too picky about them. Flenserbone Staff- Good low token counter to melee teams Hotglass Staff- Trait cycling Overloaded Staff- Good damage output and a block that will prevent a lot of damage Burning Bangle- Tokenless terrain attachments Runestone- Slide and cycling with great terrain attachment Sensate's Ring- Tokenless slide and cycling
Cinnabar is nice but not a must have especially since it is a Yellow Token Ring of Appropriation is one of the Treasure Hunt rewards. With the boost to Telekenesis it is pretty good. I really like the Whiterune Staff, but there are more good staves in this game than I know what to do with. Hadn't seen Yoloxl's Staff (which in my mind I read as YOLO XL as in you only live once extra large) but anything with Gusts of War is sweet. I am not a fan of Jumpspark, but I got my head handed to me the other day against a bunch of them, with Unholy Wellspring + trait + arcane Shell.
