Hello guys, as the title said I was an avid player of Card Hunter a year ago but i left for a couple of reasons: 1) I didn't feel any attachment to my units. They were easily replaced, not really customizable and i never liked the fact that you can have all of them. They lacked uniqueness. 2) The replay value. The campaign was a blast but after the completition i didn't feel the urge of starting again just to complete a bunch of challenges ( I don't like them, especially the "1 HP" one). 3) I'm not an hoarder (more like a clean freak actually). This game pushed me to save items that i didn't plan of use even in multiple copy and i didn't like it. I know that you are supposed to keep a little "sideboard" with situational items but this game was too much oriented towards collecting than optimizing. I'm not a competitive person so I wasn't into the Multiplayer thing, I always prefer a Co.op mode instead of a Vs mode so my experience pretty much ended with the campaign. Has something changed? Was the thief class just a rumor? What did you all do after the end of the story? I'm curious about the state of the game now.
We just had a major rebalancing patch, changing the functionality of a lot of cards. So that's the big thing at the moment. If you remember how useless Twin Heals or Stuck Arrow used to be, you might like some of those changes. A little while back there was also an expansion with new cards and new enemies and new treasure hunts, called Attack of the Artifacts. The biggest thing you're likely to be interested in are the Mauve Manticore adventures. They're player-made adventures with pre-configured parties. They're substantially more difficult than the standard missions, and a lot of fun I think. There's also the Loot Fairy. This is most of my interaction with the game these days - log in once a day and do the loot fairy adventure. You can read up on that here if you like: http://sorcererers.dotq.org/loot-fairy.php Co-op is not finished, but it's partially implemented and clearly coming in the future. I'm not sure what you mean by collecting vs. optimizing, it's not one or the other. You collect, then you use your collection for optimization. That's how games like this work. No news on the thief class to my knowledge.
If you've been gone for a year and mainly interested in SP - there's the AotA treasure hunts (as well as the AotA card and item set) that were released at the end of april (which Guises mentioned above). Not sure if you included the base set treasure hunts in your original playthrough or not, but if you're interested the new ones are at 7 (free),8,9 and 3x 18 (which is 1 level higher than the earlier sp content, and they're pretty damn hard - endgame style).
Not for the things you mentioned. There are a few more adventures and items but all in all it is the same as before. The only reason you might want to stay are the new rule changes which affected mostly Multiplayer. You might like it now better. And there is now a coop mode which they are refining
Or after a year, it might be fun to run the campaign again with new characters. Depending upon how well you remember it. But aside from the things mentioned, not much has changed.
Can't really agree with your statement that the new rule changes mostly affected multiplayer - they've really shaken up SP as well. Edit: perhaps I jumped in a bit fast there - the card changes have shaken up SP more than the rule changes have.
Well thanks for all the replies, I never found a miniature game as good as Card Hunter but i guess it's still too early for my comeback.
Dip your toe in the water - it's still a great game and you have much more chance to buy the best items now with the changes to Randimar and the Daily Deal. I'm sure there will be more good stuff yet to come.
