Rating Reset with Balance Changes

With the impending balance changes arriving to Carhuntria in the near (perhaps distant) future, can we also see a rating reset, so that all ratings post-change will be indicative of the-soon-to-be current meta?

In most games, the balance changes would coincide with a new rated season (ie. the Warcraft arenas). And while this game isn't like most other games, I believe it would make sense to take this approach to reset the ratings, and perhaps even start a new PvP season as well.

    Just an idea.

This sounds like a good time to necro some old ideas. (Also, the fact that I am conveniently highly ranked after selling out is pure coincidence... >_>)

Well, yeah, if they are reset, then some awards should be indeed handed out too. And the reset shouldn't come as a surprise :p

I don't think we'll be reseting account ratings. We may well introduce seasonal ratings in the future, which would reset every [amount of time], maybe with some kind of prize on the line. No guarantees, and it almost certainly won't happen at the same time as our balance changes, as it would delay the balance changes.

I'd heavily suggest an Elo crunch. Take anyone 1500 and above and move them to 1500. Then anyone from 1499 to 1200 set them at 1200... etc. That way new players won't have to deal with people who were previously 1800+.

You mean, as opposed to a reset, yes?

Yes; that is what he meant.

    Better something like new_rating = (old_rating + x) / 2, where x = 1000? 1100? 1200? for those whose rating > x

Yes, it is what other games do so matchmaking isn't a pain to new players for a while. Otherwise until skilled players with insane items and experience get back to their true Elo it disrupts play heavily. That could easily be 100+ games and really throw people off from wanting to play due to facing outclassed opponents at every turn. That's one of the reasons why throwing matches on purpose to artificially lower your Elo is against the rules.
