UPDATE: Here is a playlist with all my games and my narration. Not the best stuff, but interesting nonetheless: Playlist

Hello! I'm going to be running a Swiss-style tournament (type of tournament where everyone plays the entire time for points: http://challonge.blogspot.com/2013/01/swiss-tournaments.html) for Card Hunter next weekend (Saturday, 17 May 2014 at 8 PM UTC / 4 PM Eastern). It is a SPEED tournament with DRAW LIMITS and designed as a rapid series of matches back to back. See the details below for more information.

It is open to anyone in good standing within the community and will have a similar style to the previous tournaments that have been run. The rules and other information can be found below.

Note: This is more of an experiment than a full tournament, so rules are subject to change. It is more about having fun than anything else!

    What:
Swiss-style SPEED tournament where everyone is playing the entire time (no elimination). It will last approximately 3 hours, with each match lasting around 12 minutes (6 minutes per side, with 3 minutes for breaks in between rounds, and for record keeping updates).

Additionally, DRAW LIMITS are enforced by the game (this is a setting that means that on any given turn you can not draw more than 5 cards past your normal draw -- any draws past that are ignored). Draw limits are designed to limit trait cycling in this competition. It should have really no major impact on non-trait cycling teams, but it is something to keep in mind.

There are specific rules that must be adhered to for the tournament. Violation of these rules will not only result in forfeit for this tournament, but potentially future tournaments. Plus, it is all for fun -- so don't cheat!

Prizes will be distributed at the end in the form of chests. The exact amount is to be determined, but I've been given approximately 2000 pizza to divide into chests for winners and participants. Even those who don't win will be eligible for prizes if they stay the whole time!

The limit for entries is currently set at 64 (which is 6 rounds of matches minimum for Swiss). I seriously doubt we'll reach that so it is essentially open to any number.

    When:
Saturday, 17 May 2014 at 8:00 pm UTC to 11:00 pm UTC. It will run for approximately 3 hours so please plan accordingly. Additionally, you must show up at least 15 minutes before the start of the tournament (7:45 pm UTC) in order to indicate you are present and participating. You must be present for the entire duration, as there is no elimination in the tournament. ( See here for when it is in your time zone: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Card Hunter Swiss-Style Speed!&iso=20140517T20&ah=3)

    How:
The rules for the tournament are as following.
    - All items must be of "Rare" rarity or lower (i.e. no Legendary or Epic items)
    - Whirlwind and Whirlwind Enemies are banned. You may use items that contain those cards, but you can not play those cards. Doing so results in an immediate forfeit for the current match.
    - Matches will be loaded from maps that have a 6 minute time limit per player and with draw limits enforced
    - Every player must submit their team build [see Registering Build below]
    - After each match the winner of said match must update their Challonge bracket [see Challonge below].

    Registering Builds:
Each player must submit their team build to me in a private message on the forums before the start of the tournament. Each player is allowed up to 3 primary characters and 1 sideboard character. You may freely choose which of those 4 characters (3 primary + 1 sideboard) to use in between each match. NOTE: You can submit me a new build at any time to replace your own build up to an hour before the start of the tournament.

To submit you must copy and paste the party code by doing the following:
    1.) Go to Multiplayer Keep.
    2.) Load your tournament build.
3.) Hit F1 twice to open the console.
4.) Type " partyanddecksbbcode " and hit enter. This copies your build to your clipboard.
5.) In a private message to me, just paste and send.
6.) Send your primary party and your one sideboard character in the same message (copy your main party code, then remove one character and add your sideboard character, do the above steps, then paste and remove already sent characters).

*** Sign-Up: You must create a Challonge account and then apply here: http://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/qUVazZ2NNc (Since this is a speed tournament it would be extremely difficult to organize all the scores myself -- thus I'm requiring people to use Challonge to manage it themselves) ***

    Maps / Time:
One of these 6 maps (see attachment below) will be randomly chosen immediately before the match. Each round will have another one of the 4 random maps, but no round will repeat the same map twice in a row.

The maps are going to be: River of Tezkal, Hyperthalamus Havok, Lost City, Deep Forge, Melting Glacier, Gladius Triple.

There will be 6 minutes on the timer per person and draw limits will be enforced. The maps can be downloaded below.

    Finalists:
After 12 rounds, the finalists will be determined based on previous matches (tie breakers are determined by previous enemy scores using the "Median Buchholz system" which is automatically implemented with Challonge). In case of the unlikely event of ties all tied parties will share prizes for their equal standings (as in if there is a 3-way tie for first place then each player gets the rewards of 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place added together and then divided between them).

    Other:
Make sure to download the map zip file below before the start of the tournament!

Any questions or concerns feel free to comment below!

    Why no expansion items?

Also, there is no map pack attachment that I see.

That aside, some good rules and some interesting ones; I look forward to seeing how it goes. CT5 and I will stream some coverage via twitch. :)

No expansion items because I don't feel enough people will have the time to get a large number of good Common, Uncommon, and Rare items in the next week or two. If it was in a month I'd definitely allow expansion items, but I don't want people to feel like they need to grind all of a sudden to compete.

Also, there's no map pack attachment yet (you'll see I mentioned that it will be attached in a few days). I have them but need to make the special time / draw limit for them and package them. I'll probably do that tonight.

EDIT: I've since changed the rules -- expansion items are now allowed!

    Okay, that makes sense!

Word, my bad... I saw some reference to "below" but they weren't there yet and I guess I didn't read your post thoroughly enough. Carry on :)

Okay, the maps are up. Can someone check them out if possible? They should have a 6 minute time limit with draw limits enforced.

I'm in. Tried the maps. They seem to be set for 6 min and draw limits.

Yep, next week! It was originally (before I posted this here) planned for today, but real life stuff came up and I wanted more time to be able to advertise it. Shame that Leagues are over at the moment since that was a ripe audience to advertise to.

Here is my build for the tournament (posting it publicly so people don't accuse me of cheating or whatever). And yes, I am running 3DC in a speed, draw limit tournament... no clue how well (or poorly) it will do -- but let's see!

    My party has been submitted.

Look forward to doing something a bit different. Not to mention the pizza potential. :)

Whirlwinds make me facepalm so hooray.

Well, the prize is chests instead of pizza. It is 2000 pizza towards chests. I haven't figured out the distribution of the chests yet, but we'll see based on the number of entrants. Plus, if a TON of people sign up I'm sure I can get even more prizes to give away -- so spread the word! =)

I guess if sorcs win, you could divide pizza among them and then transform it into chests after division.

Also, just put your tournament on the loot fairy tracker!

Thanks. =) And yeah, that's one of the reasons I've been waiting to divide prizes. Want to see number of entrants + how many SRCs for dividing prizes and stuff.

It's at the same time as Eurovision final :(

Clearly that can wait. This is a lot more important!

Actually you might lose a lot of European players due to that. It's very popular over here. Bigger than Americal Idol finals big.

Can't you just watch it after? And how many people wouldn't show up? It is really hard to schedule a time that works for everyone across the many time zones. If it isn't one thing it is another, so...

Who knows how many won't but "Every year an estimated amount of 125 million viewers watch the Eurovision Song Contest". It's not just the players whose opinion counts, their families and spouses might insist they watch it with them. This is a bit bigger than someone's squash court reservation.

Watching it after is like watching Super Bowl after. It's possible but what's the point? Shared participation in an event of this magnitude is a large part of the attraction. It's old news after the winner has been announced. It's a live happening gathering a large part of European families in front of the tube at the same time.
