This is off topic, but in a way still related to Card Hunter - as Jon's one of the original founders of the company. Seems Ken wants to do his own thing too? http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/02/18/ken-levine-winding-down-irrational-games-lays-off-staff/ http://www.irrationalgames.com/ (full letter)
As long as there is no extremely bitter falling out, Jon and Ken should be able to part ways on friendly terms. That way if Ken happens to want to rejoin he would be able to do so with open arms from Jon.
Heh, Jon already left the company years ago (long before he decided to form Blue Manchu). As far as I know they're on very good terms still...
Yeah, it's a big bummer that Irrational is closing its doors. I have many, many friends there (being a former Boston-ite myself). The talent that's in Boston is ridiculous. I can only hope we see tons of new indies coming out from this! Less well publicized is Turbine (makers of LOTRO and others) also let 60+ people go last week. It's hard out here for a game dev.
From what I gather the Irrational thing is not based around money - guess that's what's shocking people. While I hadn't heard about Turbine (which is surprising considering these news usually spread) I can guess that's down to their stable getting a bit old - haven't heard much from them since DDO. I guess the mmo market might be changing, and noone seems to know where it's going - still they broke ground with some great F2P models. Hopefully everyone lands on their feet in this economy - and at least times are good for indies for those brave (and/or foolish?) enough to dare.
LOTRO does very well (as does DDO) and they're working on DC Universe Infinite Crisis (unless it's already out).
