This commentary is aimed at the devs, not other players. This is not intended as hyperbole, just an expression of extensive disappointment. Whirls are boring to play against, even when you have a deck full of sprints and team runs. It's just not interesting to spend every turn trying to establish a position and then being hurled away, knowing that the next round will look exactly the same. Most whirl teams don't even have a good kill condition, so you have to drag out to 8 or 9 rounds before they win by capping victory points. I could care less about my rating and ranking, which is why I'm content to resign immediately against any player who plays a whirl. However, I'm skilled enough that, despite tanking my rating, I maintain a rating near 1500 where just about every other build is stacked with whirls. Given this predominance of matches which are boring, I am seriously considering abandoning standard multiplayer entirely to focus on single player, custom maps, and tournaments in which house rules ban whirls. (NB: Regardless of whether or not whirls actually dominate the kinds of builds people play, they stick out so much that they dominate my experience of the game. I play Card Hunter because it's fun, and when it stops being fun, I stop playing. I am offering this feedback because, though extensive, single player content is finite, and I will eventually (or possibly sooner, given my current preference for it) complete it and move on.)
I know what you mean. Yesterday after having to fight nothing but Whirlwind and Firestorm decks, I decided to stop playing until meta changes. These two types of decks ruin the game for me because they ruin positional play, which I think is the most interesting part of Card Hunter. Without it, I'll rather play something else.
Every time I face a team that doesn't have a wizard, my first thought is usually "Thank god. No fracking whirlwinds."
I hate facing firestorm decks, but firestorm decks and whirlwind decks are a important part of the meta, without those, meta would be nothing more than 3dc wizards and 2 wars 1 mass frenzy priest. Sure those cards could need a fix, specially WWE. I hated facing firestorm decks with my 3 wizards without whirls. i i hated face 3dc and their tons of wow and lava without whirls. IMO whirls and firestorm are important, maybe bit to strong on their current incarnation, but they do open a lot of possibilities Actualy when i see 2 wars and 1 wiz team i think it will be a fun matchup since i also run that, but i do groaw when i see 2 wars 1 priest (that to me seems prety much all the time).. so i guess its a matter of preferences, i dont dislike facing whirwinds that much, but i can see its rly anoying, but they do backfire sometimes
I have no problem with firestorm decks. Heck even 3dc and frenzy, while nasty, are at least playable. Whirlwind is boring, annoying, stupid, etc. What's the point of positioning if your opponent is just going to press the random button? Even if they whirl me into a good position and I manage to kill someone or get a vp, I get no satisfaction out of it. Even when I win against a whirlwind deck it leaves me unhappy. That's when you know there is a problem, people. Suggestion: make whirls auto-reveal themselves when they are drawn. At least then you can hurry up and quit, or at least be prepared for the insanity.
Whirls, nimble strikes, trait cycling, sprs and wow. I think I'm beginning to see why they don't nerf them. Because I don't think they want to nerf all of the broken things at once due to the amount of work required. At this point, imo, its better to patch them all out of the game simultaneously, rather than piecemeal patches, if those piecemeal patches take 3-4 months per small mechanism.
Hey now I play 2 wars 1 wiz without a single ww/wwe, so it's not nothing. But I agree that it's a good counter against 3DC. Maybe that's why my deck always lose against them: because no whirlwind.
There is some cool new shtuff coming out soon. While I still think that whirls aren't any fun, there is enough new content for me to wait it out.
