So, what do you people think? I actually finished both of these unlike the first one. I liked the Wedding and the two Portal fights, especially the last fight where you get to slaughter a bunch of good guys with Lava Pools. The supplement with the arenas on the other hand gets old fast and has low replay value - there's very limited tactics when you are walled off and fighting 1 vs 1 fights and some of them are basically unwinnable. You also get very limited card draws with some of them. I did enjoy Cowardly Attacking and Pickpocketing another monkey, that felt like poetic justice in action.
I posted about this in two other topics already. Short version: the concept is awesome but the creature choices could have been better. I also dislike the fact that you have to finish the same exact thing 3 times in a row, which makes it tedious. It would have been better if the number of mini-maps (and therefore 1vs.1 battles) would have increased as you move forward, for example 3,4,5 or 2,3,4 (if you wanted a map that actually fit the screen).
I think I still like MM1 better, and I feel it will keep its replay value longer, but MM2 was pretty good. A good punch-up in the first scenario, and after that it's always fun to play with geomancers. My Mantis got killed, which rather contradicted the 'aftermath' story, but maybe they just re-summoned him. The supplement is a great idea, but like Scared Little Girl, I can't see myself doing three in a row often. But it is fun. I don't think the balancing is bad really, given the limited choices. Generally there are three you can win or probably win, and a couple where you just have to hide and pray that the AI sits there. (With a 3/5 target, I don't think that not losing a dead lost match actually makes any difference, but I like to try.) Monkey versus archer was my favourite fight. I think a human archer should nearly always win, but a human can win with the monkey too albeit it is not a certainty. I also got monkey vs monkey which is also fun.
the monkey is the dark horse of the bunch. a good tatic is wait then to waste their move cards, and then scatter yourself to the ai back and pickpock him. i did that againt the skeleton and got only bones..after that skelly could not kill me. Archer can be prety fun too, need position yourself really good.
I'd really love to see some of these ideas - different monsters, different pairing counts etc - in new custom scenarios. Hint hint.
goes back to the editor and thinking of a way to improve the concept btw Farbs look at the tag team version 2v2 is cool, alot of diferent dinamics and the small box where i putted the other monters, makes it look like they are cheering edited_ Actualy just got a idea but bit tired atm, tomorrow will do it
2v2 does sound very interesting. I'll check it out when I get a chance. Boxing inactive characters was an interesting idea but didn't play very well, I thought. The AI ends up playing boxed character cards to no purpose, and you spend quite a lot of dead time discarding at the end of each round. Fewer inactive chars might work though, eg if one of five chars was boxed.
ye, but after some tests i realised the only way was to box in the other monsters to be truly random. Anyway i will try improve on it
Hmm. Edit doesn't seem to be working sorry. Need to double post. I didn't realise you were talking about the 2v2 scenarios that you had submitted already. Whoops. I think a 2x 2v2 could work well, since it'd put all the characters in game. The 2v2 scenarios you submitted though really suffered from the inactive chars gumming up the play.
btw, know what would be cool? 2 arenas togheter, and some sort of gate, when the fight ended in one, the gate would open and the victory fighter could go help his/her team mate on the other arena. think thats possible? make something like that?
This is very close to what I was planning to do I was thinking about a square-shape map that had 5 rooms, one in the center (square) and 4 around it (kind of L-shape). The center room would have a victory square and other 4 rooms would have 1 vs. 1 random battles like in your scenario. Each of these 4 rooms would have a double door (one door per player) that leads to that center room. The idea would of course be that once you beat your opponent, you kick in the door and cap the VP. Or you could try to just rush in the center room without killing your opponent and defend the VP square. I'm not sure if something like that would work but it sounds interesting to me.
sounds interesting. i just finish a map. the idea is based on Pokemon battles 2v2 vs 2v2 with 2 extra "pokemon" boxed in. i will post the map on a diferent thread, maybe u can help me out .
The first part is sort of an evasion and get that healer first game since you (should not) stand a chance to fight them, not even if you get good draws. When I first saw (most) cards from both sides (I was unlucky with the draws) it was like "You got to be kidding me!!" The enemy managed to push me in the back so I lost eventually on my first turn but on the second things worked out well. Nice story and a decent hard fight. The second part was kind of to easy for me. Perhaps I go to lucky but still to easy. the somewhat low level of your party was nice but a few more opponents would have made this better. With that Geomancer on your side the field easily falls under your control. When I can play through this again I may change my mind. On the last part it is the Geomancer that wins it for you. I was careless from the previous battle and managed to let the "demon" get killed and then the cleric *sure the Geomancer does not look like a nice guy but the cleric... now why did he turn bad and what happened to the other 2 dudes?* but as said, the Geomancer can, in time, takes out the Dwarfs. Still a tough fight. The story about this portal thingy seams confusing. This last Field has some black tiles that seam unfinished. Also, and this may be a bug, I was unable to go to the last red tiles, those next to the edge, behind the portal. Or is it always so that the outer tile line is unusable? Towards the 2nd supplement. 5 arena fights at the same time is cool. Almost beat the Wyvern with a Zombie and that monkey is the best when the cards fit. My Zombies performed all well (darn prejudice because they stink a bit) scoring a kill against a monkey through infection and another Zombie. Love to beat a superior foe. Most depends on the map type however and of course a good draw. The AI's movement plays seam to be a bit glitched because it often played move cards for units that where still fighting but did not move them at all. This happens almost every time when there was no Line of Sight to the targets for them. A bug?
