Thank you for the update Jon. That is pretty much what I had deduced earlier. I hope to get my hands on this and start bashing out bugs and providing feedback. Edit: didn't like how it sounded when I read that back.
Well, that's how you can be happy and sad at the same time :S I'm happy they are making sure their product is highest quality but sad because there won't be a beta this year
What's up with this? Quoted from the blog: Quoted from a post here on the forum: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To be clear, I'm not suggesting anything nefarious here. It could be that they have thousands of items planned that just simply won't be ready for beta. Or it could have been a simple mistake in Jon's blog/post. Either way I thought it was interesting. Regardless of the answer to that "WTF?" moment I had reading the blog I think they're making a great decision. So many games rush their beta these days it is refreshing to find a developer that isn't going to give their beta players a game with obvious (and therefor pointless to report) bugs. Public/Private Betas are for finding the bugs the developer isn't aware of. As much as I want to play Card Hunter now, I am more than willing to wait for a proper product, beta or not.
Beyond waiting for the game to be actually ready (which I guess is important) skipping the holiday season is probably a good move as well. I'm obviously very excited to get involved with this game, but I know this time of year is going to be full of other things demanding my attention.
There is no mistake. If you read the blog carefully...the beta is planned till lvl 18 only. And Jon is saying there are 1000 unique items from lvl 1 to 18. As for the full game, it should easily reach 4-5K items. One of the key tools for Card Hunter devs would be proprietary pre-coded card and item generator toolsets and toolchains that reside on another development server. If you consider the 3 classes and 3 races, it averages to about 150 unique items per class/race. At per lvl basis, its 8-9 unique items which is a reasonable value for a game in pre-beta phase based off Blue Manchu's current manpower. I can infer a lot of other stuff but I'd rather not.
chances are very low, because of christmas hollidays but where did you red that there won't be beta players on 2012 ....i only red this : Cordalinge, positive thinker....
Well, knowing my luck, I'll be in the last wave before open beta... At least we have an actual timeframe, now, the new year. I guess I can stop compulsively checking, every day.
Well I'm very unlucky in my life, but still it's good to know that beta won't be released anytime soon. It's kind of sad we can't play it before the end of the world, but still, after world end I'll be waiting to try it I don't think I will be able to force myself not to check everyday in case it started earlier tho
Thank you, I appreciate the callback. And I think waiting until next year is best for all the reasons discussed. I spoke of the need to procrastinate: right now, I'm so busy that I fear my procrastination time is lost.
I pooped my pants when I read that. I feel as though I will also have very little luck. I never seem to get into betas until the very last closed wave or until it hits open. C'est la vie. I'll stick true till final release if I have to for this game. I'm already in love.
Take your time, guys! We'll all still be here, though some of us will be quieter than others as we're in the midst of moving to a different country. Also: 1,000 items? The thought of getting all those into the Cardhuntria wiki gives me hives.
Correct! Also, we're not quite done with the initial set of items (up to level 18). We're currently "filling in holes" to make sure there are a proper distribution by type and by rarity across that set. Once we're done with that we'll have considerably more than the thousand or so (roughly speaking).
pfft proper distribution of items? Back in my day we played games and got no items till level 10, then we got 30 items and liked it! hehe, im excited for beta, been waiting an year!
Bah! We used to DREAM of drawing our characters! We had to write our characters' descriptions out in longhand on parchment with a feather quill!
