That Item You Really Want But Cannot Have

It's a fun irony that when you go to build around Winds of War you realise that Runestone is better due to the cycling and only a minor power token. I've occasionally used a Wand of Seared Air where I am not building around Winds as such and it's just a throw-in and the character can afford a major token- it's a nice card. Although speaking of level 17-18 commons and uncommons and Winds of War, I'd love more copies of Green Hide Robe (only got one) and Locket of the Gale (still none).

I think the only other stuff I know want and haven't been able to get by drop or Randimar would be the usual coveted rares, epics and legendaries: Vibrant Pain/Nimbus Blade/Slippery Shield, the no-token-2-Firestorm cards and Firehide Robes, the Bludgeonator. Oh, and The Hackmaster just for the comedy value of that one Almighty Hack (I have had it played on me, so I appreciate the funny).

So I bought that Vampire Blade and tried it today for the first time thinking it'd be perfect for the handicap quests. In the first battle with mere three opponents on the map, my priest got hit for 9 damage by Loner on turn 2, then another 9 on round 3, killing her. I swapped it out and finished the adventure easily without it.

Maybe it works better in a proper dedicated vampire build, but there's just so many fights where everybody is in a giant pile that I'm not convinced on Loner not being all that bad.

I mean, every handicap is worse the more handicaps you have...
For instance, Frightened and Trip both suck, but what's worse is getting both in the same turn.

That's the brutality of the handicap quests, and of course Loner's gonna be a pain when it's stacking with Vulnerable (that's how you got the extra damage, right?) and your party's underperforming anyway due to the deluge of black cards...

When I run with the Vampire Blade I take extra precautions on my positioning. I sometimes use movement cards I would normally keep to move my other characters away from the character who might get Loner. And of course, the more rounds go by that I don't see a Loner the more cautious I become. That doesn't mean I'm always wasting movement cards. I will throw caution to the wind and leave my guys near a bunch of characters, but I love it when I think I'm about to get a Loner and I move away and it shows up and I take no damage. I'll also focus down minions when another target may be a higher priority because that minion is w/in 2 squares of my vampire.

On maps with a large amount of mobs this gets a lot tougher and if your whole party is vampires even more so. But I find it to be very interesting. :)

That's on my wish list too! It's wierd, though. I'm overstocked on several epics and have a few pretty useless legendaries, but I'm having a heck of a time finding some of the low-level rares I want. I farm levels 1-10 (sometimes to 12) almost every day.

I've been wishing for a a Staff Of The Inferno since launch, and last night I finally got one! Now I want at least two more in a much quicker fashion

General Jelom's Helm, or at least Helm Of Reinforcement. It would make single player quests a lot more interesting if there were opportunities to go after specific builds, rather than just being locked out of them because RNG
