I'm still low level and I just completed a dungeon giving me two commons, one rare, an epic and the club reward was a rare. I thought the club reward would be of equal rarity to the highest reward and therefore would also be an epic. Does this mean they consider the club reward rare to be of equal value to the epic? Thanks in advance for clearing up this issue!
"as rare as rarest item you would otherwise be guaranteed" Not the easiest or clearest of sentences. But actual items don't matter, only the "level" of the chest and the rarity it guarantees. And as MP chests can have several guarantees, it matches the highest.
I'm not understanding this unfortunately, so I'd like to get some clarification. For example, I'm in an adventure that says it is for levels 2-3, my end chest reward pops and shows a level 1 Common and a level 3 Uncommon. And my reward for buying some pizza and becoming a Club Rewards member is a level 1 Common (the mage's starting staff). This has happened twice and from the way the game first explained the Club Reward, I was under the impression that I should at least receive an Uncommon item in the Club Reward. Then after reading where that may be a poor explanation (one that I would highly recommend be updated), I see that it may go off of the chest level instead. If that is so, how the heck do I figure out what level of chest I'm opening at the end of the adventure? In an adventure for levels 2-3, I'd guess the chest should be level 2-3 so in turn I'd expect the Club Reward to at least be a level 2-3 item (I'd still expect the rarity to also match since that is what it mentioned in the Club Rewards explanation). Right now I'm disappointed that I got the Starter pack as the Club Reward system so far is not working anything like what I was led to believe. The game is a blast, so I probably would have bought some pizza at some point as I like to support games that I play, but in trying to get started, the Club Reward system so far only seems to be a way to give me an item that is worse than almost everything else in the loot chest and that only pulls in 1, maybe 2 gold pieces when sold.
The chest at the end of a normal battle is only guaranteed to hold common items. That's why the club item can be a common. The last battle of an adventure has also rarer items in the chest and you'll never see a common item as a club item there. The item level can differ as much as three levels from the adventure level. There is a lot of loot drop item data in this thread if you want more information about this.
Another example. I just finished the Trog Wizard adventure. The end loot box held a level 2 Common, level 3 Common, Level 3 Uncommon and a level 2 Rare item. Seems legit since the adventure was for levels 2-3 if I recall correctly. Then my club reward item. I was an Uncommon (which was better in a way since it wasn't a common item like the other two loot encounters from before), yet it is only a level 1 Uncommon. So that doesn't seem to fit into any of the explained criteria so far. From my initial impression of the Club Rewards information, I would have expected a Rare item instead of an Uncommon item. Then, after seeing talk about chest level or what not, I'd at least expect the level of the uncommon item to be level 2 or 3. How is this not a bug?
Alright, then can someone please explain why the Club Reward information that plays for new players, and explains why you'd want to go the route of getting Club Rewards shows how if you get an Epic in the box that the Club Reward will also be an Epic? This example plays right after you hit the first Loot Chest that has a Club Reward item. It is so misleading that now I've gone from feeling slightly shafted to down right lied to.
It's been a long time since I saw that play out, but the explanation would be that the guaranteed rarity of the chest used in the example is Epic. The club reward has the same guaranteed rarity as the chest and that's why it's also an Epic in the example. It's not lying, it's just simplifying things a bit. It would probably be pretty confusing for new players if it tried to explain this in more detail then and there. I understand your confusion about this well, it's a common feeling. The thing that throws most people for a loop is that if you're lucky, you can get a better item from the normal chest items than the club reward is. This is normal randomness of the loot drops. You can still rest assured that you will get the kind of item you were promised from the club reward pillow. Don't worry about the item levels, it doesn't affect the item quality much. You will also get higher level items than the adventure is which balances this out. You've just been unlucky the first few times. When you play more you will see some awesome drops, too. Happy hunting!
The reward for the example chest is not set as guaranteed epic, I'm pretty sure about that (let's summon Kalin to the thread and he can probably answer that) . It's probably just a very lucky/unlucky random epic drop (depending on view). Maybe I'm just misunderstanding what example you're referring to?
The example that is given in the introduction into why you should purchase a Club Reward account clearly indicates that since the chest included an epic item, that the Club reward would be an epic item. It did mention that the club reward would equal the highest rarity of what was awarded in the chest, but since the example plays out during the Campaign Loot Award sequence, the fact that campaign loot chests are apparently "Common" award chests isn't mentioned, implied, or even remotely stated. I mean if what is being said is accurate, then the example given in the tutorial ONLY applies to the 20th multiplayer win from what I can see so far as that is the only area where I'm seeing that an Epic item is guaranteed as part of a loot chest. I'm someone who doesn't care for multiplayer play much, so if it was clear that the Club Award really only applies as it implies in multiplayer matches (since the Club Award apparently for the campaign isn't guaranteed to be anything more than a "gasp" common item), then I wouldn't have gone out and gotten my starter pack yet until I had the chance to see if I had other friends interested in trying it out.
The starter pack has all the treasure hunts, right? And the treasure hunts have guaranteed epic loot drops, so the club item is epic. But yeah, seems like you got misled, sorry.
Treasure Hunts gives guaranteed epic loot first time you beat them, you gain guaranteed rare loot for beating the challenges (new game+ after beating the regular sp campaign) - and there are some guaranteed rare and epic items (even a guaranteed legendary at one point) in the regular campaign chests as well. I don't recall treasure hunts being mentioned as part of the club tutorial since that one pops up at lvl 2ish - and treasure hunt tutorial is at lvl 6ish. I agree that it could be presented better (and we've asked for clarification about this to minimize confusion), but I don't think you're correct in that the game lied to you regarding this. It is possible they added a BE tutorial, but that was after I passed that point - so I'm not aware of what it says in that case.
The common item as best guaranteed chest reward only applies to the normal battles of an adventure. The last battle has better rewards. A typical adventure has three battles so every third battle you get guaranteed better loot and better club rewards. The first time you complete an adventure you get the best stuff, for example the treasure hunts Flaxative mentions above have two Epic items on offer for club members. Repeated completions of the same adventure guarantee less rare items, two uncommons (+ a third for members) if I remember correctly. After you finish the whole single player campaign (all adventures) 3-5 Quests per each adventure open up (complete an adventure without anyone dying, for example) and you are guaranteed a rare or two for those. So the situation is not nearly "only commons as adventure rewards". Now imagine the tutorial tried to dump all of this on you the first time you hear of this. I think you'd be left very bored and confused and remembering very little of it. I do understand having an epic in the example and then getting a common the next time is very disappointing and disorienting. Probably the example should be less extreme (a Rare, perhaps?) to not leave a too optimistic impression. I get your disappointment about this, the above is meant only to show that the situation is not quite that bad. I have been quite satisfied in my club membership for the second month running. I've gotten a LOT of useful items and gold I wouldn't have without being in the club. I never felt cheated out of anything so hopefully as you play more you'll also get some serious bling-bling as membership rewards. The confusion the reward system has caused for a lot of players has been discussed many times here on the forums and there are a lot of people sharing your feelings or part of them. Blue Manchu should probably do something about it.
I don't believe the "example" actually has a set rarity. I recall mine being a common or uncommon item when joining the club - that might be part of the confusion. If it has been changed to a guaranteed epic item to showcase the club, I'd say that's bad - but I don't believe that's how it is tbh. I believe Glorr got very lucky with his first club drop, which would understandably raise the future expectations. That being said. Colourcoding chests, or even allowing a simple guaranteed label on hover for the chest or something - would solve this. BM, time to act here - too many cases of this now.
Does anyone remember which battle introduces the club reward? I'm not seeing it in my screenshots from Wizard's Workshop. EDIT: Ah, I forgot that I did an MP battle before starting the campaign, so it was among those screenshots. Melvin just says "Club Members get an extra item each time they open a chest." and that you should click the club button to find out more: And I don't think "guaranteed rarity" is ever explained in the game.
I found it. I don't think it is quest specific, other than it's the first location you go to after you obtain your third party member (and thus unlock the level 2+ quests on the map). I also found the language and here it is quoted: "Join the Card Hunter Club and get a Club Reward item in every chest you open in the campaign or multiplayer! Your Club Reward item will be at least as rare as the rarest item you would otherwise be guaranteed. For example, if you open a chest containing a guaranteed epic item, the Club Reward item will also be an epic item or better." Now that I understand that campaign chests apparently are only guaranteed a common item, I now understand how the system works. What still is inadequate in my opinion is how my only experience to that point was campaign chests and at no time was it mentioned that those chests are only guaranteed a common item, so without any kind of frame of reference to go off of, the wording seems very misleading. It could be clarified easily by a simple "Campaign chests are guaranteed a common item, Treasure Hunts are guaranteed an Epic, and Multiplayer chests vary on which win it is." That statement would have led to no confusion or thoughts of being mislead.
Less confusing, but also less accurate. Two-item campaign chests have no guaranteed rarity, so the club reward may be Common. But the final chest of an adventure guarantees an Uncommon (usually two, actually). And then the treasure hunts and several other modules guarantee a specific item the first time you complete them and club reward will be at least as rare as that, so the club reward is always Legendary the first time you finish Melvelous. But the second time you complete those adventures you're only guaranteed Uncommon in the chest and club reward.
