Losing in PvP - please give some kind of reward.... It really is NO fun to get pwnd for nothing.

Just spent a little over 2 hours PvPing and haven't gotten a single thing to show for it... Other than getting my ass kicked and a hate for all Elf Wizard Parties :)

I am not talking about getting into a game, losing one character, and quitting - like so many other people I encounter. I am talking about losing by one or two stars! Long, hard, strategic battles where someone gets screwed by the RNG towards the end.

I really think there should be some kind of reward for losing. At least if the game lasts for 15+ minutes, and you only lose by 1-3 stars.

This would encourage people to play the match to the end not not just do what was suggested to me by a friend...
I should NOT have to purposely resign from a few matches to tank my rating, just so I can get a few easy wins and the rewards that come with them.

So please, PLEASE give rewards for losing, at least if you played a GOOD game.

    Thoughts?

To be honest, I dont see the point of mping for loot. You do it for a good time.

Really? Hmm. I must be a greedy bastage because I want to see at least something for my losses :(
Am I the only one that thinks this way? Lol.

A lot of people play mp for the loot, so I don't think this is unreasonable. Some sort of consolation prize would be neat, but it would be hard to implement in a good way - to avoid win-trading et c.

win trading is already possible. Just resign as soon as it finish loading.

Yes, but you can't match against someone effectively. If you get loot for losing, you'd be more willing to allow someone a win.

I can do it for 2 mins straight then get matched with gary.

Yeah. I ended up resigning from 6 matches to get Gary twice and get my chest.
That feels SOOO cheesy, BUT it was fast and rewarding.

Please do not do this. Not contesting a ranked game is dull for the other player, and is a bannable offence.

First of all in order to PvP properly you should finish campaign, by that time you'll have good enough items to actually stand a chance against other players and then you will be rewarded for your PvP :)

And, soon, this will not be possible.

Worst case scenario is that it'll lead to mass resigning to gain items.

Best case scenario is some arbitrary limit on when you can gain items from loosing. Certain way to make people confused and/or angry.

If you got a piece of "standard chest loot" for every two stars you get, rounded down, then it would reward effort and close battles without being abusable. Add the caveat that you only get this consolation prize if you don't resign and we'll see more games being played through as well.

Handing out any consolation loot for victory points could be easily abused - both players in chat agree to take turns damaging/killing two of their own characters, then each is quickly guaranteed a minor prize for nothing.

That would be a very inefficient way to spend time for two low-quality items and no chest advancement for the loser. If people are going to just game the system it's much faster to just trade wins via resigning so people quickly advance to the gold chests. I mean, who really wants to spend their time mindlessly attacking their own guys in a multiplayer game? Might as well just go grind campaign for better rewards.

Provided that immediately resigning never becomes more attractive or efficient than trying to win, I think this would be fine. Ideas that I seem to recall being discussed in the past were to give players some amount of gold per star they got in a match or to give the loser one or two barrels of Pickled Herring provided they got at least a certain number of stars.

Maybe you could make the whole chest track number of stars based? Might be too open to abuse though.

I'd prefer not to see the match objective distorted by adding chests for victory points. Currently, each match is about trying to win - and that's all. There are no special rewards for having high health at the end of the match, or special rewards for winning by killing enemies, or by claiming victory squares or anything like that. It doesn't matter how many points your opponent gets, as long as you get 6 points first. Getting those 6 points is the objective of the match, and nothing else matters.

If you start giving rewards for something else, it will distort the way the game is played. For example, if players get an item for each victory point, then that would create a strong incentive for players to rush towards the victory squares on the first turn to get a point, even if that means putting themselves in a weaker position in terms of winning the match. Sometimes a player might have to make a decision where one option involves a greater chance of winning the game, but another option would guarentee them another item by getting a victory point. For example, a player might be controlling the victory squares with a character on very low life, standing next to an enemy warrior. They know that if they end turn, they get a victory point, but then the enemy warrior will probably draw an attack card and immediately kill their character. Do they stay for the victory point, or do they run for cover in the hope that they'll draw some cards which may help win the game in the long run?

My point is that tradeoffs like that don't currently exist in the game. Currently the objective in each match is completely clear, and every decision is about how best to achieve that objective. If there are rewards added for doing anything particular thing in a match other than winning, that will distort how the game is played. Even if it is something closely related to the main objective such as earning victory points.

    YES!

This is exactly what I had in mind. I would say you should get a piece for every star you earn.
Of course you can't resign or you get nothing.
