Flash of Pain targets behind caster

Flash of Pain is intended to target only characters visible to the caster (note the card text refers to "you", which is incorrect, since the *player* always has line of sight to the whole board). The card currently targets characters directly behind and diagonally behind the caster, breaking the intended scope.

I believe this is intended. The character has LOS to all characters whether or not he is facing them.

OK, thanks, that sorta makes sense. Referring to sight is slightly confusing since most other magic depends on visibility to the character. Reference to "you" should still be replaced.

I don't think there are any rules in which visibility has anything to do with facing.

The 'you' is actually standard. The spells are written with the casting character as the reader. This hearkens back to RPGs where you only play one character, but I agree it can be a little confusing at first.

Yeah, "you" can be confusing, but it gets very difficult to refer to "the character this card is attached to" or "the character whose hand this card is in" and so on.

Eh? Not sure what you mean, since there are tons of rules that depend on facing: whether or not you can block, whether or not you get to draw a card when attacked (ala simian reflexes), whether or not armor applies (weak armor), etc. What you can see is always determined by facing, so you must be saying something else....

I think what he meant is that visibility isn't affected by facing. Visibility is only affected by line of sight, i.e. the ability to draw a line from one square to another.

Facing only affects your ability to block (and some other minor things).

When you mouse over a character, all the square they can see (i.e. have line of sight to) are shown in green. The ones in front are shown in light green and the ones behind are dark green.

That's why Flash of Pain can hit something behind you, because it only cares about line of sight.

Yes, that is particularly dealing with facing, not visibility/LOS. Sorry wasn't clear. Let em try that again.

As far as I am aware Flash Of Pain is the only card that references line of sight (thus visibility). No other spells take this into consideration other than the general mechanic of having to have line of sight to a target in order to cast directed spells.
