Who am i? you ask. I am a nobody who saw a review of card hunter and signed up for the beta. I never really got the chance to play D&D as a kid none of my friends liked it. I love rpg games and the idea of D&D. So this game really appealed to me. Most card based games are fun, but i never have the time or want to spend the time needed to understand all the cards and what they can do and testing them out. For me it really is to much work to make a good deck. The idea of getting a weapon and there are cards attached to it is a really good idea. Really. playing the campaign made me feel like in a quick way they should make a D&D type game for a casual player. Everything was fun it seemed just enough luck and strategy to beat the scenarios that were given. Well until hitting level 9 and doing the Gladiatorial Arena. Something seemed to happen a wall of increased difficulty came up. Casually playing and enjoying the start up players and going to the market to make wise buys with the very limited money given out was satisfying. I was not over powered and the enemy was just the right challenge. Like i said at level 9 something changed. instead of losing once or twice to beat a level i kept losing. i tried the other Gladiatorial or demon portal and the same thing. I am not a hard core player and i know the casual player usually gets left behind on these types of games. But i must admit i feel a bit sad by the change in difficulty. I will try to go past these levels a couple more times but if the frustration continues the fun just falls away and i will stop playing. I know you need to make money and if i wanted to i could push a ton of money in the game. i am willing to bet if i did spend i would get better loot so i can easily beat these levels. My guess that is the general idea of the increased difficulty. I am too casual to want to study the game for hours figuring out what stuff i would need to buy. I just wanted to leave a quick review that this is a great idea for a game. Over all i think it is a hit i hope the game gains a ton of success. I have recomended it already to two other people and they also enjoy it. good luck.
Sorry to hear you're stuck! The reason for the difficulty spike is just that: we want the game to get harder. It's not an attempt to get people to spend money. We just made the decision to make Card Hunter a challenging strategy game. We tried to build the levels so that you have to rebuild your deck to beat them. Unfortunately without rebuilding your deck you'll hit a wall at some point.
what i would do is start playing some MP and get the first two or three gold chest every day. you'll start to see some better items in no time at all and that should make advancing in the SP campaign more easier and more enjoyable
^ this I had been struggling with one of the levels and failed it 3-4 times. I looked through all my items and checked to see which cards would be the most useful on that level and completely rebuilt the deck. Finished it first attempt after that!
