[QUESTION] What's the definition of "character"?

I was taken aback when I killed a mob and then lost my hand due to Superstitious. If, as it would appear, a character is any mob on the board, then a clarification of the card or a rollover of "character" might prevent future confusion. I'm conditioned to think "player" whenever I see "character", I guess!

Any figure is a character, whether controlled by your or not - agree that it might not be 100% clear until such effects take place. For ruture reference, I believe player characters are referenced as "allies" in the card text.

Is that stated in the rules somewhere, Pengw1n? I seem to recall seeing it, but haven't been able to find it since posting. As an aside, "figure" seems to be less ambiguous.

There's no "rules document", yet. I saw Jon was working on an a help web thingie, so that might be something useful for cases like that.

Well, I feel... simultaneously... better and worse about not being able to find it, then. Thanks! :)

We're here to help, we've learned the hard way and made all kinds of stupid newbish misstakes - so these kinds of questions are very valid, and sooner or later there will either be a complete set of rules, or a complete wiki (which is your best choice of info for now).

I remember making the same wrong assumption about Superstitious as you did :D

I'm working on the help page right now, and I will get around to adding some definitions soon. To answer the question of the OP:
    You are the Player
All the figures are Characters (which sometimes operate as Groups)
Characters on the same side are Allies.

I made the same mistake with Inspiring Presence - in the PvE environment the labelling of monsters as characters is confusing. Obviously though it is important for the PvP environment. I feel these definitions which are counterintuitive in the PvE environment should be clearly explained somewhere - preferably by Gary in the intro stages (not consigned to page xx of some help file, never to be read, creating abut 250 more threads like this in the newbie help forum that will soon come to exist).
