Terrain attachments obscuring terrain type

Playing through the level 8 premium with Geomancers (order of the core) on the second map Geo's dropped some Lava Pool's over an area that had some difficult terrain in it.

trying to plan my warriors moves to get closer I was right-clicking to find the squares that were still difficult terrain put clicking on the lava just gets me the terrain attachment view and nothing about what's underneath. I was able to bring up the terrain details by carefully clicking around the edges, but it's a very small zone when all the surrounding squares are lava as well.

May need right clicking to bring up the terrain in the top of the box and list any attachments underneath?

Also occasionally the terrain attachments come up at a jaunty angle, all pixelated while they are like this and impossible to read as a result

Lava, Acid and other suchlike spell effects are difficult terrain by default, I think.

lava is not, but i'm pretty sure all the rest have stop

There are 5 terrains right now that i know about.
Acid - Stop lose armor 3 damage
    Lava - 10 damage
Stone spike - Stop 6 damage
Blessed - Draw a card and heal 3
    Cave in - Stop

so three out of five have stop.

Also Rockfall, that just creates difficult terrain.

And Mud! Some of those darn slimes and jellies make Mud Pits, which are both Stop and "you can't play Blocks here." And Smoke from Smoke Bomb counts as "terrain," remember. And then there are Illusionary and Wall terrain types.

But in any case, this is getting off-topic. These terrain attachments (and, for that matter, character models themselves) make it trickier than one might like for reading the map beneath. I don't know if this is a "bug thread" so much as a "feature request thread," but I'd definitely request a change.

Terrain overlays replace the underlying terrain. The only reason you might want to know what the terrain is underneath is so that you can plan for what happens when the overlay disappears.

Wait so you are saying that placing lava on difficult terrain should stop it being difficult while the lava is attached?
Damn I should've tried to see if that happened, I'll reproduce, see if the movement options are affected, I can't remember but I think they were

I should note that "Victory" is a terrain type, and the terrain overlay certainly does not replace it.

And, in any case, the issue isn't so much that you ALWAYS need the information (one can easily see the golden glow of a victory square, after all), as that you MIGHT need it and it is somewhat difficult to get. Just as it's annoying to click on the square directly below a figure.

All right. got me some lava on top of some difficult terrain and it is causing my characters movement overlay to show it as a stop square (difficult terrain)
Specifically in this shot moving my human wizard, the square adjacent to her front left is difficult terrain with fire wall attachment

So, if it's intended to overwrite the board terrain type it's not. Hope this helps

Interesting, that's a bug. When I wrote the system I only intended to terrain overlays to add Stop to the square. I didn't think of the case of the lava type that we added later. I'll log something.

It's true, and that's why we made the victory squares glow.

This will be fixed in the next build. Movement costs will be entirely dictated by terrain overlays, so Lava over difficult ground will now negate that.
