I noticed that on the aftermath flavor text for the penultiment Highway Robbery adventure, is sais that the adventurers can chose to persue the goblins, OR loot the wagons. If they loot, the Goblins will be back with more forces. I would of liked to loot the wagons first, but I coulden't. Will it be possable later in the beta to be able to make choices like this?
Would be cool, they had that option in that Neverwinter Night facebook game. Not that it really mattered, you just got a few different room/loot- but it had that pen and paper feel about having to make decisions (kill the boss or let him go et c).
It seems there are more alternatives described in the adventure text than actually matter; not just this "choice," but that "saving throw" upon completing The Wizard's Workshop, the "possible" Black Ooze (which is always there) in Dungeon of the Lizard Priest, and others. But then, there are supposedly bits that DO matter: the page says there's a 1-in-20 chance of getting the Goldleaf Blade in (I think) Slub'Gut's Sanctum, which we know isn't fake because Jon's revealed other modules have unique treasures, too ("Added White Diamond drop to White Star"). I can see what they're doing: giving us the impression that there's an entire world of RPG play out there, and Gary's playing one particular path with us. But it's going to be tricky making sure that this works for the audience.
Then again, White Star and Hand of Melvelous might be fixed one-time drops first time it's cleared rather than "rare chance drops". I guess we'll see!
I noticed the branching text as well. And then... there was no branch. I was a bit disappointed. Branching would be awesome! Maps that have a chance for a special enemy show up with be sweet as well. Give us that d20 to give a whirl.
i absolutely agree...when i saw it i expected a choice and when there wasnt any i really wanted branching adventures to happen =) in general i love having the choice in where the story goes...i mean thats what a lot of roleplaying is about isnt it?
I thought of that stuff more as little jokes. It's module directions for the GM in dry practical language. In so far as looting the wagon though, show me a party who won't finish a fight and then go "Right that was a combat where's the kit?" and start digging through wagons before continue the chase and I'll eat my hat. (Please don't, I like my Fedora) That being said branching paths would be incredibly sweet, hell the more random involved the more replays right?
I can't now confirm that they are not guaranteed. At least, they are not guaranteed for somebody who cleared the adventure (The White Star) before the current build and went back for it.
@Sit Knight: I got the diamond (200g one right? legendary treasure) on my first clear of White Star, so while I can't confirm it as guarantee first-run drop, my experience leans that way (and it's Kobold, I love easily slaughtering those things) (I cleared it a second time earlier, no diamond...at least not yet )
