Hi, and welcome to the Card Hunter forums. We'll be hanging out here and trying to answer your questions, so please ask away!
Will there be an open beta? Can players play the game each day as long as they like or do they have only a limited amount of actions they can take like in some other browser games? Are those adventure modules going to be purchasable with ingame cash or do you have to use real money to buy them? What kind of rewards will you get from PvP battles? Will there be organized PvP tournaments like in Magic the Gathering?
Any info on release date? Online multi-player or single player only? How will micro-transactions work if the game is free to play and you get new cards by playing?
I'm a big fan of the work your team has done in the past on their seperate ventures and I have several questions for you. One question is related to how you mention you both move and attack using cards. Do you plan on making every movement card use up an attack or will you be having the properties of these cards work in phases like "play the move ability, then choose whether to use the attack or block"? Perhaps "move cards" and "attack cards" with different turn phases with some cards containing elements of both? Another question is based on how playing your cards work. Will you be using a mana system to determine what cards you can play like in Magic or will the cards be like choosing attacks in a turn based strategy just...you know...there shown as cards ? I'm real curious about how magic points or mana or whatever you use will work in this game to determine how you determine what you can do each round. I'm also a player of the game series "Culdcept". Your game has me quite intrigued and I'm curious if any of the gameplay will have similar elements to anything found in Culdcept? Finally...um...I was searching, but I couldn't find anything on this so I'll just ask. Are you still looking to acquire people for this studio?
I'm very curious to see how this game turns out. It looks like three of my favorite things mashed into one - board games, tabletop RPGs, and collectible card games. Nekorb: I read (I think in the Gamasutra article) that it will have acceleration items (speed up crafting, etc.) and avatar customization items. I'm especially interested in this, since I've worked in the free-to-play/micro-transaction space. In any case, I can't wait to try this game out!
Hey - congrats for being the first people to post on our new forum! It's all shiny and new. I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. We're still pretty early in development and working out a lot of the details, so I probably won't be answer everything, but I'll do my best.
Yes! No plans to do that. There will be a large number of adventures that will be free. There will probably also be some that you have to pay (real money) for. I'm sure we'll move to implement some sort of organized tournament play with rewards. But our initial focus is very much on the single player game, so that will probably come after our initial release.
Ah, these are all really great questions! I can't really answer you in detail here but we'll be releasing a lot more information about how the game actually works over the next few months. I will say that there is no mana system in the game. One of our design goals was to recreate the tactical depth of Magic but to also create entirely new kinds of decisions and problems to solve. "Re-skinning" Magic wouldn't have done that for us. The game IS all about cards though. Everything you do comes from playing a card. LOVE Culdcept too, though this game plays very differently. As far as recruiting, yes in a vague sort of a way. Feel free to message me directly.
We're hoping to go into Beta late this year. I'm not sure exactly when we'll "release" yet - probably early next year I'd guess at this stage. The game will support both competitive multi-player and single-player. Coop play is something we'll want to add if the interest is there. Micro-transactions will probably be used in the sense that you'll be able to buy an in-game currency that you can use to spend on vanity items or to accelerate your loot/card gathering. It will probably be a lot like other free-to-play MMOs like D&D Online (just to pick an example).
Kind of a silly question, but one that might be important to a fair number of people - will the base classes/races be available in both male and female (and other, depending)?
Looks like I will join the ranks of those messaging you for details on your "vague recruiting." Goodness, I came upon this in a roundabout way, but I'm glad to find it. Such creative people, hailing from a spectrum of projects that I love! However did you folks come to team up with each other in the first place?
Will the dungeons be static or will they be random every time you go into them? Random rooms/layout, enemies, loot etc?
Love the game concept of RPG + TCG! About the cards, are they going to be race/ class specific or neutral that can be used by everybody? Does the "vague recruiting" still open? I'm really interested to help out.
Looks and sounds cool. Your business model sounds non-exploitative, too. Definitely watching this. Also, does anyone else love the way there's not a single female in this thread? :')
I've spent the last fifteen minutes staring at this message box trying to formulate a question around Mojang's Scrolls that wouldn't also invoke the wrath of everyone on the board. It invites too much comparison.
A tiny, yet vitally important question: Will female dwarfs have beards? Definitely looking forward to the game. It looks awesome.
Haha, indeed. We were shocked when Mojang announced Scrolls, since we were already quite a few months into development and thought that we were working in an unoccupied niche. I imagine they thought the same. We got in touch with them shortly afterward and they were really great about it. Now we're just keen to play each others' games.
Just migrated over here from Kotaku (hopefully I'm the first!), and I have to say I think this game sounds mighty interesting. Heck, I was eager to join as soon as I read that the game would me almost completely free to play. An online CCG/TCG where I can get more cards by playing, not buying? My attention: you have it.
Your commercial crushed my heart when it said "Board game not included". Still, my attention has been grasped. Infoz, plz 2 haz sum.
