Cleaned up, the sword logo would look pretty sharp in my opinion. I do sort of like the cards spelling out "card" in the selected logo instead of "hunter" though.

Or, to put it another way: the current logo could likewise have been left as "a rough," and would have picked up a lot of the "style" we seem to be attributing to the discarded logo. I think this is worth noting, for those of us who feel the old one had charm.
This is probably a good point. The "one card per letter" thing is a deliberate deviation of normal writing style, and can be overdone. If, say, both words were wholly on cards then the logo would look cutesy, especially in a cleaned-up and solidly-shaded version. Keeping it short is probably wise.

    Dev Diary #8

Although we didnt learn much about the current game we can get an insight on how possibly the game currently looks as well as this cool screenshot
    [IMG]

Can we still assume that the cards on the dock there are cards that are still que'd up for attack/defense?
BTW i just want to point out, i love the way the priest looks in this picture.

    Edit: also, still no females

I'd also say we can assume that the red pucks with numbers on them on the 'figure' bases would be their hp. It's certainly not initiative order. ^_^

    Hmm...
A bunch of "new" card names -- all potentially out of date. I wouldn't trust any of those numbers to be correct. They all have range of 10!!
A clearer view of some terrain hazards than in the last battle screen: lava, acid pool, spike pit.
Three characters on your side, we knew that already.
Five monsters on the opposing side, check.

Wait! I had posted on the custom map thread with wild examples of facing twenty Goblins, but a little voice in the back of my mind said, "That battle screen in the Gallery has three monsters exactly." Now we confirm the monster hordes are coming with 3 Kobold Miners who apparently share the same deck.

There are so many details to elaborate there, Jon! Don't leave us hanging! Does that mean any one of the three can use a card from that hand, or do they play in rotation?
Are there any plans to have a Clone spell so our guys can do the same thing? (If not, can I make the request with an ingratiating pleeease? :D)

Edit: Ooh! Look closely at the hazards... See that the lava appears to be printed right on the board but the acid and the spikes are pieces lying on top of it? Could these be... traps?

P.S. I won't embarrass you by mentioning that there are four Kobold Miners on sitting on the game board.

I acually thought about that for a second but that would be weird, i think once the AI has selected an attack, they all use that attack. This may sound crazy like WTFBBQOMG so much damage! I think they may be balanced for small ammounts of damage, it would make more sense for goblins to poke you for 1-2 rather then 3 goblins hitting for 3-5. More substained damage over time rather then bursts your trying to avoid from "throw away" mobs.

Acually, taking a 2nd look at it, the goblins have a larger card que then the other players or monsters. Hmm and the way the cards are set, all the cards do the same damage and range, i dunno if jon is trollin us or if this was so early in design they hadnt messed with card numbers yet.

    Now im unsure, opinions anyone?

I think I was editing my post while you were editing yours.;)

My opinion is that this is a new picture for an early design -- they faked up some "old" cards and just reused the same base in staging the shot. Same thing with the white and black card piles presumably indicating remaining deck and discard pile. All of them say 23/13, just as in the previous battle screen. It's not truly informative.

That could indicate about what a typical deck size is going to be.

    Edit:
I'm not sure I know enough about Lizardman biology to make that call...

May be 4 on the board, but it says 3 next to the name. Unless that has some hidden meaning behind it, ither 3 kobolds are going on this turn or only 3 are active

Also i noticed the warrior has 2 cards behind him on the board. Magic Shield and Berserk. Looks like these cards are active on him because they are not in his hand.

Yeah, there's no way anything on the screen is to be believed. We'll wait until next diary.
Actually, it's a very old picture we'd been discussing in the card analysis thread. It is, in fact, the teeny tiny picture on the front page of the site! So that tells you how horribly out of date everything is. Also, it makes me very happy to see this zoomed-in version.

Also also, you folks may have noticed the improper number of Kobold Miners, but did you notice the improper number of Spider Swarms? That is, the Spider Swarm isn't actually on the screen anywhere. My uneducated guess is that the Spider Swarm was using a Kobold graphic at the time, perhaps due to an error or a lack of a finished graphic, hence the perceived total of four "Kobolds."

Also also also, the Wizard apparently has magic color-changing robes.

P.S. (because I don't feel like doing another "also"): I really, really like the idea of small enemies such as Kobolds being grouped into teams with a shared deck. This hadn't been mentioned in any diary, so I don't know if they're keeping it in or not.

The Spider Swarm are hiding out somewhere out of sight too. As usual, we're going way into the Valley of Speculation! :D

    EDIT: Ninja'd by Sir knight!

I can see it now that you point it out. I will also point out that the teen-tiny pic has one less Kobold Miner, and the wizard and priest stand on different squares. The color-changing wizard you already noticed, but did you see the warrior and priest changed avatars as well? It's almost eerie that everybody holds the same cards.

And nit-picking about the Kobold Miners was an attempt at levity. :) Because the numbers on the cards aren't working, I still presume the image is some sort of mock-up regardless of its date. (I could be wrong.) I was poking fun at Jon & friends for getting the details of staging wrong.

Pretty sure the spider if not dead is probably out of sight

Pretty sure they are 2 different types of wizards at the very least as we saw from the picture gallery with "Fiery Wizard". This might have been an earlier model to depict the different type of wizard at the time, by using a simple palette swap

The mushroom speaks the truth! Well, the mightymushroom. Jon is a different mushroom. (I presume he also speaks the truth . . . )

Behold how the Green Splot (if that isn't its actual card name, they need to name something that) has also changed size. Updated effect size, or player-selectable effect size? I predict the former, but hope the latter.

Oh, and for the "color-changing wizard," I actually meant that the in-game tile and the bottom-of-the-screen graphic are different colors in the current big screenshot. This is surely an error.

Ya i noticed that as well, they probably depicted all the wizards as the same portrait, with different swaps in game is how i meant it

I had noticed in the dev diary shot that it covered 3x3 tiles yet had a 2x2 tile image. I didn't know what to say about it. If the effect size is player selectable, doesn't that mean at least two versions of Splot cards?

    Oh.

I should clarify that that board image was a mock-up only. As you all have noticed, there are a bunch of things wrong with it, like the fact that the cards all have the same numbers on them, the wizard has had a wardrobe malfunction and so on.

I can confirm though that the red counters are health values.

Also, we DO have multi-monster groups. The way they work is sure to provoke some discussion and controversy (it has in our test group anyway), so I'll save discussion of that for a future diary.

Any further problems with the mockup, please blame Ben.

I have always thought that multi-monster groups should be used for more than just having multiple distinct monsters - but also to make a single monster more interesting. You see this now and then in turned based RPGs, but it's rare outside of that.

Care to explain? Or are you just talking about the "swarm of X" idea, like the Spider Swarm which is a single monster here?
