I have noticed that Festering Guts damage ignores the Shimmering Aura. That surprised me since for some reason I thought it would be projectile. But then I have tested it and I discovered it was not melee damage either since Polearm Slash does not defend against it. May we have an attack type for this card? With a mention of it in the description, maybe the Unblockable mention too. PS: it seems Mad Dog does not have an attack type either
The types for both are in the text. Festering Guts is acid damage. It isn't magic, so Shimmering Aura does nothing. Regular armors work, and Resistant Hide negates it.
There is a difference between attack type and damage type. Acid is a damage type, but there is no attack type specified (which the only current ones that exist are magic, projectile or melee). When EttSC was being play-tested there was an effort to give attack types to a lot of cards that did not have them (the motivation being to permit mimetic armors to work more effectively), it appears Festering Guts and Mad Dog were left out, though not necessarily intentionally. EDIT: Just checked, when I went through during play-testing and gave the list of cards to @Jon that did not have attack types, somehow I missed these two. (And maybe others? Any other cards people know that don't have attack types?)
There's a similar problem with Scouting Run and Laser Block, it gets blocked but because Scouting run doesn't have an attack type it doesn't draw a card.
Even before this thread and @Magic Elves' post, I wondered if Scouting Run ought to be Magic Psychic or some such. Festering Guts should already probably be at most Green instead of Purple since it is powerful when used well, but it's like the Paper-quality Flash Of Agony in that it can easily backfire, too. (If anything, it's easier to backfire because the player "triggers" FoA from one's own hand whereas the player or opponent can "trigger" FG by slaying FG's bearer -- and for that matter, pushing off attachments (FG) seems much more common than discarding opponents' cards (FoA). On the other hand, if the lack of Burst / los makes it Purple, then sure, I get it.) The point of my bringing up quality in this thread: If Magic/Melee got added to FG, that might, might need to lower its quality a tad due to those couple armors being skipped. (I actually started writing this to be more adamant, but then I remembered, it doesn't trigger blocks, thus 1. adding Magic/Melee doesn't change that part, and 2. it's still really powerful!) On a related note, adding "Unblockable" to the text would probably clarify the card a little more, too. /me loves Festering Guts, btw. It's just some scary, fun stuff. $:^ b
