That may be a moot point once Cursed Radcannons become more plentiful.

With the exception of Cooling Laser, how often are type-based damage boost effects on anything other than class skills?
Even if they do end up on the same class skill, there are other ways to balance it.

I do wish for more emphasis on more interesting type-based effects than just +damage, though.

Bash, I guess. Not often :p

And Strong Chop and those frenzies that only apply to melee or only magic. But mainly I was worried about seeing Talented Healer on the same item as this thing.

Those are all keyword-based damage boost effects, NOT damage-type-based effects [eg, Crusher is a damage-type, Bruiser is a keyword-type].
So I stand by my statement ;)

And we got that. Not sure the concern is as intense as you make it out to be, especially since getting a +1 damage trait on a class card will only dilute how many talented healers you can put in deck, lowering how often you can draw it. Careful item design on top of that, and you'll never have any issues at all.

As I noted, unless it breaks current pattern and exists on something other than class cards, it's not going to be a problem at all.

Though, again, I much prefer special traits to damage ones.
Or at the least something that's a bit of a twist, like +1 poison damage, rather than +1 base damage.

Well, your statement said "boost effects", not "Boost cards" so Combustible would count too. :p

But I don't think anyone is actually disagreeing with you, we're just indulging our pedantry.

Hmm now that AA5 is done I was wondering if you guys could give input on the item I submitted. What made it bad/mundane/not worth choosing?

Snow Globe Staff (Level 15 Rare Staff)
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Thematically, the idea was to give your opponents the feeling of being inside a snow globe. The cold effects are there for the snow globe feel (Cold Snap's image fits this well, I believe). When the snow globe is moved, it causes slight disruption so that explains the wind effects.

From an item design point of view, I chose the cards based on several reasons:
    • Whirlwind Enemies: It would be nice to see WWe on a staff; this feels like not a bad way to do it. WWe is actually a decent control card with a medium-high degree of randomness.
    • Cold Snap: This, along with the wind cards also in the deck, helps boost the direct effect feel of the item. If this were replaced with a longer duration Encumber cards like Chilling Rime it would be too easy to stack positioning advantages along with WWe.
    • Ice Bolts and Gusts Of War: The showcase gold cards in the item, these are valuable control effects that deal less damage than the Cold Snaps but provide less random control than Whirlwind Enemies. Ice Bolts makes a lot of sense here compared to other Encumber cards because of the whole cold-wind theme and because it hits two targets just like Gusts Of War. Also, Ice Bolts has range 6 like the other cold cards here so that you can't encumber from too great a distance and just whirlwind away.
From a multiplayer point of view, this staff could actually work in good strategies. The bronze cards press for an immediate advantage and the gold cards are good all around. It's inferior to Staff Of Winter and the like in terms of Encumber but it has an edge as a control staff if randomness is permitted in the strategy. The twin targeting of Gusts Of War and Ice Bolts would definitely feel good for the player using it if he/she's able to hit two targets with it. The consistency of the cards in the staff also would work well in general.

I also had the feeling a staff with a snow globe on top of it would look friggin' awesome. That's where the design primarily came from ;)

Didn't you see the vid with all the answers? This is a staff, it got ice bolts, isn't themed/named on the nose enough, too reasonably priced, prbly too original in general.
    Merry Christmas, folks.

I did see the video. I do know it has Ice Bolts, but the use is well justified and it's perfect for the theme. The theme's there! This is exactly why I'm asking where I went wrong.

my point was that not being choosen doesnt mean you went wrong. if you however wonder how to be choosen, then the vid goes over ALL of this AA rounds criteria in hindsight.

I wonder what's Flaxative stance on putting the bronze Melee Laser attack cards on staffs. They seem to make sense on a wizard... mechanically speaking.

It's safest to stick with cards that have already appeared in the slot. So Push The Button is fine, the rest are risky.

My goofy idea for AA #6 that I decided against submitting. If anybody wants to do that, then let them.

Question, how do I make the card pictures show up in my post ? (Clicking image and pasting the wiki link makes them huge compared to everyone else's so I think i'm doing it wrong.)

Also what level/tokens would this item be: Laser whip, rad bolt x2, unholy wellspring, demonic miasma, demonic revenge.

Use "copy image address" from the item or card page. This should give you an image name that starts with 150px-.

  19. Mystical Drakehide is Silver minus. I was under the impression that all 3 of those cards are pretty unpopular and considered underpowered in multiplayer. What makes you consider it OP?
