Hello everyone! So I'm a long time fan of Card Hunter, having gotten hooked ever since they first showed off an early version at PAX Prime. Now everyone enjoys the game in their own ways, but I'm kind of an optimization junky. So I have started a bit of a project to create an algorithm with which to give a numerical score to an item to serve as a starting point in item comparison.

And that's where you come in! I need to get scores for the ranking of individual cards. I'll be going through them by general card type and hopefully use the opinions of all who contribute in the end result.

    HOW TO HELP:

I'll be listing cards of the same type, categorized by their Quality. In comparison to OTHER CARDS OF THE SAME QUALITY, you can help out by giving each card a score between 1-5. Here's a rubrik for you.

5: An incredibly potent card that is completely self sufficient, or so good it's worth building around. These cards are the best in the game. Not every quality grouping will even have one.

4: A stand out card of it's quality level. Worth grabbing at every opportunity.

3: A solid choice in it's quality level. Nothing amazing, but holds it's own.

2: A mediocre card. It seems to be outclassed by several other choices in the same quality, an is rarely worth an inclusion.

1: A bad choice. These cards could be intentionally underpowered, or are just a poor design.

    THANKS FOR THE HELP!

Do note that some cards have already plus / minus modifications to their value:
These values affect the item level and thus token cost.

Pawndawan, is there a source for checking out these assigned card values?

Thanks for the info, Pawndawan! So, I'm going to start by putting my assessments of the Paper Quality armor items up. Feel free to disagree with me!

I'd probably drop the Harness to a 3, but I think your paper rankings look good.

I don't see the drake/wyrm hides on here; are they to be on another list? Or the other harnesses; is this because of the roll that takes places for the hides, and the manipulation of the roll by the other harnesses?

Some cards work in conjunction with other cards more than other cards, so it is a bit hard to rate some by themselves. There is also all sorts of considerations, like whether you will keep a card at the end of a round, which is especially important when considering armour.

Armour cards are pretty stand-alone though, and their base usefulness is easy to calculate (armour reduction multiplied by probability of triggering {though do note less reliability means less damage reduction in the long run, but I can't see it being too large a difference}), and then you can assign what worth you think abilities have. What appears to be an average reduction (with keep) worth goes (very) roughly, by my estimation - Paper - 1 Bronze - 4/3 Silver - 5/3 Gold - 2 though once you get to higher ones they have all sort of abilities.

I agree with your assessment of the paper qualities, pretty much. I'll just estimate the ones you've listed.

    BRONZE

    Hardy Mail - 3
Holy Armour - 4 (almost tempted to make this a 5)
    Shimmering Aura - 2
    Thickened Mail - 3

SILVER (and here comes the really subjective stuff, regarding abilities)

    Adaptable - 3
    Crafted Mail - 3
    Cushioning Armour - 4
    Mimetic Armour - 4
    Mimetic Crown - 4
    Reliable Mail - 4
    Resistant Hide - 4
    Solid Mail - 2
    Spiked Mail - 1

    GOLD

    Barbed Platemail - 4
    Grounding Plates - 3
    Inspiring Armour - 2
    Toughness - 4

    Emerald

    Enchanted Mail - 2

Killer74, thanks for the ratings! I'm going to wait until tomorrow or Sunday to toss up the next one, so please chime in folks!

I'm just grabbing the cards by how their categorized in the wiki. I haven't checked, but I imagine that all the hybrid cards that are missing were likely sorted by their other type, and therefore will pop up in those polls.

I agree with gulo gulo. Drop Harness to a 3, otherwise it's fine.

Thanks for the input, folks! Please feel free to keep chiming in, but Killer74's and my altered assessments look like they should work for a baseline. The Hybrid Armor Poll is up next!
